So, I've had this Marantz PMS-3500 sitting around a few years. It's a little small, and somewhat "feminine" in appearance. So I decided to throw it on Ebay. But after taking it apart for cleaning, I saw all the awesome design touches, and it's no longer for sale!! The aluminum faceplate is thick as hell! Seriously, it's as thick as the ones on a 70's home receiver! You don't have to worry about bending it when you take it off. Oh and the gold color is anodized, not simply painted or plated.

Also look at the metal tuner dial, and the metal tape well. And my favorite part, the condenser microphone grills. So incredibly pimp! :pimp:

Hell yeah, that's how stereos should be built! Sell it, what were you thinking, :nonono: But if it's taking up too much room, I'll hold onto it for ya! :-D

Actually his looks like the CRS-3504, which lacks the Mid knob and Mic Mixing knob, but adds shortwave and Rec Level knobs.

Don't you still have the bigger model, the PMS-7000? Now THAT'S the pimp one. 8" woofers, metal knobs, a tuner light, and a flywheel tuner!!

I thought the same thing. Never seen that before in a Boombox.

BTW. DIBS! It would go nicely with my Marantz home unit.

You said "feminine" in appearance, and it's model is a "PMS?" Coincidence?

That's impressive how thick that faceplate is. That could probably take a good bump.

That model looks amazing. Wish they made them like this again, quality through and through. I bet they'd sell a ton of them.

Superb craftsmanship. I love my 7000. Sort of surprised at how long it took a nice 3500 on the local CL to vanish, must have been months, they were only asking $125.

Yeah Marantz already had suppliers making nice faceplates, so to them it was no big deal to put one on a boombox.

There definitely is room in the market for a box that actually LOOKS good. The DJ Tech is the only one to have succeeded IMO, but it's long gone.

It is....It's not loud by any means, but it's very easy to listen to. Better than you would expect for something so small.

nice one - how are the speakers - heavy and solid ?
Nah, just generic lightweight plastic. But at least it's a less brittle plastic than most use. And they put little pads between the speakers and the main unit.

To be honest, $125 is usually what these things get.

And you have a 7000? Dibs!
