I am not going to say how much i paid. I hope it wasn't to much.

It's in over all good shape for the age a few marks from use. like you can see a little black threw the gray on some of the corners. mostly the lower corners. It needs a good cleaning but it looks like it should clean up nice. Not sure if am allowed to ask how much is an RC-880 in working order worth that is in good shape. It's not mint but could look mint with a little touch up gray paint. If your not looking for the marks you really dont see them unless your looking for them. It's am/fm/sw1/sw2/ auto reverse cassette. all buttons and knobs are on it. I see a photo of one on http://www.stereo80s.com/ but if you look at that one it has a sticker on it that says scott over top were it says jvc stereo radio cassette recorder. http://www.stereo80s.com/bbx.cfm?id=256

I just finished cleaning it up. then I found out i need to charge my digital camera. I saw that it's multi voltage. 110/120/220/240 volt 50/60Hz. It also has a 12 volt plugin. The foam on the inside of the battery door was there until i touched it and it fell apart. If i glue in new foam what kind should i get? photos will be coming soon. Last year I picked up a fisher boombox that i have been using at a yard sale. only paid 2 dollars for it and it look almost like new. They both sound good but this JVC can crank out more sound. not sure what one I am going to keep. The misses is yelling at me for bring home more electronics. Only way she will be happy is if i sell one or the other, but i want to give this JVC some useage before i desideif I want to keep it. It would suck to get rid of the other then to find out i have issues or something. If it wasn't for her you would see me on that tv show horders. I would have an house full of electronics.

I do have an electronics adiction.

Welcome Jason,

Congrats on the fleamarket find.

Do a search here for belts or belt kits, we recently had the same question and there are several good online sources to buy
belts from.

yeah with something this old it's going to need belts. I just replaced belts in a yamaha 3 head cassette deck not that long ago. I was able to buy belts from yamaha's web page.

I just found the belts on http://www.partstore.com they are like 5.95 each main belt and a counter belt. I should replace both when i am at it.

shipping is 7.95 anyone know of a better place to buy them? so total comes to 19.85 with shipping.

It still needs some more cleaning. I just gave it a quick cleaning. I also need to reglue on the metal peace on the front that says dolby systems rc-880. It's starting to come off on the right side.

Yeah it;s a good size. The blue laptop you see in the background is a 17.3" screen. that should give you an idea of size. this boombox is a lot larger then the laptop. The radio sounds good. my mom has an old panasonic she bought new back in the day. It has seen better days. she used to keep it right inside the bathroom door and would have it on when she was taking a bath. it had inputs and outouts on the one side. I think she still has it but its not worth restoring. It has to be rusty inside with being in the bathroom.

I had to go look up an rx 5050 on fleabay. the one my mom had looked something like this but didn't have the eq on the front. it also had more switches on the top. I was looking around i think she may of have a RX-5110. I see the JVC does more then the panasonic, but how many people really use sw1 and sw2?

I went ahead and opened it up today to find out the belts are in good shape. I started to look things over and found a cold solder joint. after soldering it I have been playing it for the last hour. It sounds good. since I had it opened I removed the speaker grills and cleaned under them. I also went ahead and cleaned the inside. It had a little bit of dust on the inside but it wasn't that bad. All capasitors look good. I don't see any dark spots on any boards. Normaly you see dark spots on power supplies from heat but I dont see any. I guess JVC used to make good boomboxes back in the day. All cassette player gears look good. The cassette player parts look like they are built like a tank.

I didn't try am/sw1/sw2 earlyer and they don't work. I just cleaned all knobs and switches with tuner/contact cleaner. I have to let it dry but i have my fingers crossed. the one switch i had to move back and forth to get both speakers to work. so I know they needed cleaned. I think its odd that the fm works when all the others don't.

edit: Now they work. after giving it time to dry. i guess the contacts needed clean. works great now.
