WoW. Miracules DO happen.

This is the mini kaboom and not the full size and I only have the large ones but I understand that this one still booms pretty good.

Hope you can fix her up. If not, sell me the woofs! :w00t:

i know one thing i am replacing the front speakers with some coaxial units, either that or add some tweeters to it and adding chrome caps to the bass speakers.

I've never seen 3-3/8" coaxial speakers since the speaker itself is the size of a large tweeter.  And it's hard to put anything bigger inside because the front speakers have their own baffle to isolate it from the air pressure of the super woofs. So even if you enlarged the front holes to accomodate larger speakers, they likely won't fit unless you create larger sealed baskets to house them or choose sealed back speakers. Then you need to hope that it won't interfere with the side woofs.

When you get it and take it apart, you'll see what I'm saying.

When you look at the grills, it appears that the front speakers are good size -- maybe 6 or 6.5". But that is an illusion. The curved front is moulded in to a shape that will accept a speaker, and a very small but powerful front driver is installed. I'm speaking to the full size kaboom of course but the front speaker is only a tad larger than 3inches. Yet the magnet is probably as large as the diameter of the speaker flange. It is no cheapo and finding a better quality speaker will be neither easy or cheap. I have seen some stuff at partsexpress that looks like it will fit and possibly have better performance but we are talking $80+/speaker. I think what is in there is probably the best solution. It's plenty powerful and lacking a little in high details but if you add some small tweets -- then all's good.

With a dremel, carefully cutting out the speaker chamber, and some creative and skillful fiberglass fab skills -- I suspect that you CAN put larger speakers in there. But those little 3" + drivers is capable of getting awfully loud WITHOUT distortion. I suspect it will be hard to find drivers that perform better unless big $$'s are put into the project. All in all, might be better to leave it alone and enjoy it for what it is.

I'm the same way. I actually have never won a box off ebay, because I always get out bid (usually I don't have enough money to keep bidding) I also watch radio's that no one is bidding on, thinking I may get them cheap, but never do.

Can't wait to read your clean up thread!
