I've scoured the web, ebay, boom box wiki, image searches... At this point I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. All I have to go by is this old low res pic. I do believe (and the picture seems to confirm) that the operation buttons were the lever style and below the cassette doors. It seems to lack the common push buttons along the top. The other clue is the ratio and position of the "tweeter" rectangles, which are much smaller than anything my searches have turned up. I always remembered this being an Emerson, but now I'm doubting that. Any info anyone has would be greatly, GREATLY, appreciated!

Also please note there are two equal sized dials for volume and tuning on the top and what appear to be three sliding buttons at the left of the top.

That looks like a later 80s/early 90s Saisho, No idea of the Model Number, they were sold in UK from the Comet Stores, very Cheap Quality. they might have sold them under a different brand in USA, hang on a sec, i will see if i can find an image and see if you think it's the same (or similar)

Thanks for the input. I can't say I've ever heard of Saisho (I would likely be familiar with it if it had been emblazoned across the front of that thing), but yeah, if it was branded differently in the US, I'm open to all ideas!!

Oh wow, that's pretty close as far as the sliders on the left go and the knob on the right. I'll save this for future searching. Seems like it certainly could share some parts/design features. Might've just had some aesthetic differences in the case between versions, I'm sure there is nothing really functional beneath the little tweeter ports so it probably doesn't restrict their size between similar models.

Here is my guess.
Montgomery Ward JSA 39616
Tho the top looks to be a bit different in your pic.

I had suspected Montgomery Ward for awhile as we were big fans of that store back in the day. I certainly don't remember equalizer sliders on the cassette door though.

I should also mention mine would've been bought in 86 or 87. Possibly even 85.

I hope it helped a bit, i'm guessing you had that little radio in that picture when you was a Kid and now you're older you're looking for another for the memories, that is how it is with a lot of us, but we got the bug and now we can't stop buying. more and more radios. once you get the collecting bug it's over lol..

Yeah for sure! For me it was the tweeter location and the blurred out chrome looking trim, that maybe persuaded me.... any ways Panasonic made one that actually really looked good!

I would say that the body appears to be a spot-on copy. The cosmetics might be slightly different, but it's close.

Cathay was another super cheap budget UK brand, just like Saisho and Matsui. i think Cathay was Sold in Sales Catalogues, when i was a kid i'd just get the catalogue and stare at the boombox pictures every night, for hours, but i couldn't have any of them because things were a lot of money back then.
