I bought this boombox last month [ebay]220846579415[/ebay] and just received it today in the mail. yeah it's been a month! the thing is a piece of garbage. the tapes play at 2 different high speeds. it sounds like alvin and the chipmunks. the tape speed button doesn't work. the tuner picks up stations but sounds like ass. the guy didn't even put any bubble wrap in the box or anything. he constructed a box for it and it was tight as hell. not to mention the thing is so dirty it looks like it was picked out of the nastiest dumpster. i am just so pissed off guys. i'm trying to see what i can do about returning it or getting some money out of it cause it is not worth it. if it worked fine i wouldn't care cause i like detailing dirty boomboxes. i'm waiting for a response from the guy. ahhhhhh!

:agree: The bad thing is the seller has already lost his 100% feedback, so he might not even care now. :-/

sorry but that box don't even make a good paper weight when it is working right , sorry this happened to you and i hope you get you money back , there have been many boxes for sale on the forum lately and you probably could have gotten something nicer for that same money , unless you just had to have the emerson which i can understand people have grails that are not all mighty ghetto blasters .

this is how our conversation is going.

dude i just got home from work and tested the boombox. i hope this is a joke cause the tuner sucks so bad. it picks up stations like crap. and the tape decks must be stuck on high speed cause they are playing the songs so fast it sounds like alvin and the chipmunks. the tape speed button isn't working. and the thing is so dirty it looks like you got it out of the trash. the dirtiness doesn't bother me though because i like detailing boomboxes. this isn't my first boombox. i just don't know what i'm gonna do with this man. i don't want to have to take it apart if you'll do a return. cause it just doesn't work bro. and i'm not trying to be a dick but i'm friggin pissed. i've been waiting three weeks for this day.

we tested it to work before shipping . in fact we eeven left a set of (test) batterys in the unit . the test batterys are low in power and may result in a poor sound .please try hooking up the power cord and ejecting the batterys . im not sure as to how it would dirty during shipping. thats a new one to me .we get all our items from auctions and retest them even after the auction has tested them to work .but if your truelly displeased with your item let us know how you would like to resolve this , the item was SOLD S A NON RETURNABLE ITEM .but im intrested in how you wish to resolve this matter .

you mean you didn't notice the caked on grease or nicotine whatever it is that's probably been on there for years? it was filthy top to bottom like it was in a kitchen at a restaurant that was also smoked in, but that doesn't really bother me so much as the fact that the tape decks play at two different speeds. fast and faster. and the first thing i did was take the batteries out, so that wasn't the problem. this boombox is useless to me. i don't know what to do about resolving this. it cost me $68.50 total and the item is not as described. and then you ship it with a makeshift cardboard box without peanuts or bubble wrap? you must have known it didn't work properly. didn't i give you enough money to throw a piece of bubble wrap around it? and yes the cassette decks work, but it does not play tapes at the proper speed and yes the tuner works, but it just sounds horrible. there is definitely something wrong with this boombox. i didn't buy a fixer upper did i? i wouldn't pay more than $10 if i knew it wasn't going to work and looked so bad. so maybe you could refund me like $45. that's the only thing i can think of besides opening up a case because i am not putting anymore money into this unless i get some back. do you have any other ideas?

Man, are you gonna be so incredibly disappointed when you are finally able to see the "For Sale" section...
Then again, since you're chasing after Emerson's, what's in the "For Sale"
section might be a big step up for you. :-D

hahaha. i'm not chasing after emersons. and it's ironic that my avatar donatello is holding an emerson. lol. i just wanted it. it was weird. i can't explain it. it's a nice design. the only box i'm chasing is the vz-2000.

I can honestly say that just about every box you get will need some work, especially from people who are just selling anything to make a buck...You got a pretty good price on it and its a difficult box to work on because every wire is wound individually around a post..But you can get some experience repairing a $50 box rather than screwing up a $500 one that will maybe even need more work...Sorry to say this, but honesty is best ;-) Plus look at it this way if you can clean it up and fix the problems, it will be worth more to you because you put your time and effort into it  Good luck and post some pics :-D

Can you post some pics about what you're talking about? The auction image looks not too bad. If it's the same boombox, and I presume it is since it doesn't look like he stocks up on these, it's hard to imagine that he dirtied it up on purpose before shipping. After over a decade of eBay experience, all I can say is that you need to temper your expectations a bit because virtually every boombox I receive almost always is a little dirtier than the picture looks since the truth is that it's really hard to photograph dirt and grime unless you try hard. In other words, do expect that some cleaning is going to be necessary. This has in my experience been the norm rather than the exception. Once in awhile, I receive a suprise box that's in better shape than expected, but most of the time, it's the other way around.

Now not sure what's going on with the functional issues you speak of, but I'll bet some cleaning will iron out a lot of those. If you are new to collecting, you may actually discover that the cleaning and detailing of boomboxes can be part of the fun of the hobby.

Dude dont loose your energy to get pissed for such a thing. Its not worthy at all. This happen to lot of us too. Just stack it away for some spares and forget about. I have probably more than 20 disappointing boxes around the house. Sometimes they are turning to be great for cannibalizing and finishing some worthy box - some aerials, some suitable knobs and so on. I agree it is overpriced, but still not too expensive. Youll be surprised for example how some cheap box knobs are fitting and look great on some expensive grails. Some screws and so on and on. Next time just have in mind that any box looking good on pictures can turn to be POS . And make low offers when buying such questionable boxes.
