Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't find it. I'm new to restoring these old boxes, though I do have a fair amount of experience with repairing electronics. I'm looking for as much info as I can get, on a complete disassembly and restore. The first problem I have run into is how to take off the front cassette cover without breaking it. The service manual just has an upward arrow. But it looks like there are snaps, and I know any old plastic can be brittle. What is the best way to get it off without damaging anything? This, and any further tips for this model would be much appreciated also.

Like Bill said in most cases it is a slide upwards and pull outward. In some cases the top comes towards us when you pull up and in other cases the bottom comes outward after sliding upward.

Grip with both hands on either side to pull upward, and check the top or bottom opens to the front side.

They got some tolerance to breakage, don't use any tools, no plastic pry tools even.

Panasonics never had any tiny screws for that plastic, but Rising 20/20 had very tiny screws on either side.

Thanks guys. Maybe I just had to go at it with a drink and a little more confidence, but I got it. What looked like snaps, apparently are not. +1 to BoomboxLover48 for suggesting to grip a side and pull up on that side.
