How to move hundreds of boomboxes?

Start with $500 worth of proper sized cartons. I'm talking about the flat shaped ones with multi-depth foldable tabs. Basically, the Length and Width are set (based on what you order). The Height however is adjustable by cutting down to the right "pre-creased" height, then simply folding over the now oversized flaps. The oversized flaps help with rigidity. These cost more than the ones at Home Depot or U-Haul or other such companies. However, they are the proper shape and the ones I ordered are 275-lb test strength. I ordered 165 cartons, probably not enough but @ close to $500 delivered, I'll have to start with these. Some folks use the square lighter weight square ones and tape 2 or 3 boxes together, or just wrap sheets of old cardboard over a boombox to "make" their own box. To me, I'd much prefer to use the right sized ones, even if I need to order them. One neg is that you need to order the minimum quantity for that size which could be anywhere from 10 to 100 depending upon the size. The "giant" sized ones you see in the back can be orderd in groups of 5. However, you can see the strapped bundles of the smaller ones, which range from 15 to 25.

If you live in SoCal, then you are in luck. You can drop by the uline factory there and pickup your order. For the rest of us, we will need to buy online, however, for best shipping pricing, you need to have them shipped to a business address or it will cost a whole lot more. Otherwise it's not really cost effective to buy a small quantity of cartons. They also sell huge car sized rolls of bubble wrap and foam peanuts. Everything for your moving or mass sale plans.

looks like 150 pounds of serious cardboard -- right ?
I would guess more like 3 or 400 pounds. Those cartons are larger than they look in the image. That is a big truck as you need to tippy toe just to peek into the camper shell. The base of the shell side windows is at my chin level. Those big sheets you see in the back?.... those measure almost 6' x 7'.

Ummmm....Norm, YOU need to tippy toe to see into that camper!   The rest of us are fine! :-D (luv ya)

When I get to 200 radio's...I'm gonna stop moving!

HOWEVER, If someone is moving from Kansas to Nor Cal, I know where they could get a great deal on Blaster Boxes!

One thing is undeniable...you true love of radio's is inspiring :-)

Wow, that's an undertaking! :w00t:

Are you moving them yourself, or are you packing for UPS/USPS/FedEx to move them? :hmmm:

Great info, BTW.

Go!

Damn when im buying 3-4 heavy duty boxes for shipping they fill my car..... And the tick carton is heavy. Once there was a strong wind and was pain to carry cartons against it.....
Still i cannot imagine what Norm is into. Will be a massive heavy job for sure...

Very good Norm!:)
I have about 40-50 large egg boxes and some of the larger apple boxes which are of incredible quality and have pads and styrofoam tops and bottoms.

I have access to Uline,my boss uses them,I can go directly to the warehouse in Mpls.if needed.
Shipping is free for me.
I'm going to obtain 40 more large egg boxes and the super large apple boxes, they will hold up to M-70,m-90's in size.
For 777's and WX-1's I'll have to order some of 'The big ones'!:)
Great advice,BTW Norm,I buy alot of cheap bath towels as seperators when stacking and or for packing.Only $2.97 each!!:)
Good luck!
I dread when I have to move-I'm over 170 now!!:0:0

You know Norm, anything that doesn't fit on the truck I will be happy to store for you...
Pretty sure all the boomboxes will fit Melvin but I do have some old smelly couches, huge CRT monitors, dusty crumbling area rugs, and such that might need storing..... :hmmm: :-D

But you haven't told us where your moving to :hmmm:
That's for another discussion, another day, another time.

BTW, trailer came this morning. They gave me an older dirtier one than the one they gave me a photo of. Guess that means I can drag stuff all over the inside and not worry about leaving large gouges in the floors? Looks like before all is said and done, I'll need at least 2 more such trailers to fully complete my move. Issue is the weight and not capacity. It's one huge son of a gun. However, cargo capacity is limited to 22,500#. I still have at least 40,000# of stuff left over after this trailer is filled so that's gonna have to wait. Spent the day boxing up boomboxes. Going slower than I thought it would. Having thoughts of just getting rid of them all, but there's sooo many and most haven't even been gone through or checked.

Norm didn't want to say anything but he's actually moving to Australia - Hey Norm, I've got that tent you wanted set up in the back yard so we're all good.

I've got no idea where you're going to store all those boom boxes though - maybe I can 'store' them for you on EBay!

James. :-)

There is a point where you stop controling your boombox collection,, and the inventory starts controlling you.
There is a different level for each person. Enough philosophy...

On a lighter note , it would be fun for someone to start a new thread:
"Best guesses: Where in the world is Norm going, with his truckload of Boomboxes?'
Im not going to start the thread. :)
