Hi everyone-Here's a good one:How many boomboxes have a dial light that stays on all the time.
There are only 2 I know of: The JVC-PC-55's and that's only on AC current.
Then there is the Sony CFD-G-55,It has a lit-up backlight display even on DC.
I wish more boomboxes would have a lit-up dial light that's on all the time or a switch for on and off.
I don't like using toothpicks on really mint or excellent boomboxes as I don't want to mark the surrounding area.
I guess a homemade switch or the LED and direct wire the dial light switch is one option.
Hmmm-seems I've seen this mod here before.
But stock-very rare!!
Have a good one-GB. :hmmm: :surf: :-D :-O :choco: :afro: :stereo: :dj: :breakdance: :pimp: :dog: :cat: :newyear:

Pioneer SK-550's have a switch to have it on or off permanently, regardless of power supply.

major bummer !!- :annoyed:
that the m90 has no dial light :nonono: :-O :'-( :dunce: :dunce:
the m70 does --and every other brand top-of-the-line box has one --

and - a few years ago -when kittmaster made the conion light kits -
a few of us tried to order an m90 kit from him -
but he said that jvc did not leave enough space --to install a dial light ??? ??!!

SIX useless SW bands -- and no dial lamp

Hi Ira-The SW bands are not useless BUT I agree no dial light on the M-90 is frustrating!
I think all boomboxes should have a dial light with a switch not a button-those are where the toothpicks come in!
Way to go guys now I want the Toshiba WX-1 and the Pioneer both are so nice with lights on!
Thanks for all of your replies-GB. :-)

I've already put dial lights into 2 of my favorites that I thought really deserved them but lacked it:

Sanyo M-X824
Panasonic RX-5150

Will post a thread on that sometime later (read when I get around to it).

You can either do reversible or non-reversible. My M-X824 is fairly rare but I chose the non-reversible route -- why would I want to reverse that?

The problem with reversible is that since the box was not designed with a dial light in mind, there is no switch. Without a switch, then either it's going to be on all the time, or a switch will need to be added -- which won't be possible if you want to reverse it. Frankly, I think that unless you plan to put it into a museum someday, it's a non-issue and if done in a professional manner, can't imagine it having any appreciable affect on the value. It might be worth more, if photographed well and marketed as a "feature" or upgrade, especially on ebay.

Perhaps the best way to do it would be to make the dial light operate all the time when on AC and off when on DC where power conservation is more of an issue. That way, no switches will need to be implemented.

Now, if we want to get fancy, there is one other possibility. Designing a touch sensitive capacitance switch, which uses a particular part of the metal case. Touch the the metal (dial trim, handle, whatever -- you decide) and the lamp will light, touch it again, and it toggles off. However, as with any complicated circuitry, it's going to require more TLC. I still subscribe to the kiss philosophy whenever possible.
