How flimsy will the quality of boomboxes eventually become?

The answer? :'-( Void :'-( .I believe that in coming years a new technology called sonic holography will come into common use. This will be the ability for a tiny transmitting device to beam sound into a room creating a virtual sound stage.By adjusting software settings on the device, you will be able to reposition your virtual speakers in front of you.Physical speakers and output hardware such as wiring and enclosures will be eliminated all together. When this happens, people will look at this .....

....and marvel at the fact you actually got something tangible for your money. It will be so collectible that there will be bidding wars on Ebay for them.If you go in at the last second and "snipe" one, other bidders will likely send you messages like " #@%$^& " , "*^%@( B " , and even go as low as calling you a " ^%@L $%#@+ % " .The moral of this story is to collect "eggs" to resell for sometime in the dark and distant future when everything is virtual and our standards lower to the point that mere data is considered substantive.

As long as they're not Coby's or that wonderful Durabrand or GPX junk!
No egg like that is worth much of anything-heck my old GE transistor radio sounds about as good an that's circa 1968'!
Have a good one-GB. :-) :-P

My eight year old daughter was looking at the smilies we have available, trying to figure out what each one was doing. She thought *that* one was "sealing an envelope" ;-)

future boomboxes will consist of a tiny optical device about the size of a sugar cube that when voice activated will emit a 3D hologram of a booombox above it, boombox choices will be downloadable to allow the user to select his/her favorite, sound will appear to be coming out of thin air" which it will in fact be doing so.

I don't know about the rest of that "box", but the tuner and controls are soooo Panasonic RX !

I am not sure which one, whether its the RX-C37 or 39, but its definitely around about there.

My opinion on eggs? Nah, they won't become collectible, unless they have some kind of 'collect-ability' to them, like the Hello Kitty one for example.

Any other plain standard egg just isn't worth it, unless you can find other uses for them.

......"Hey guys, look at this! My Bowling Ball can play music as it thunders down the alley!"

Sorry to disappoint you Jovie but Bob Carver invented "sonic holography" almost 30 years ago and that technology had been the cornerstone of many of the Carver line of audiophile gear. I know, I have a bunch of them with some literature describing the technology. The software interface, and ebay, and transmitter stuff... well, that wasn't described so in the future, the new-age sonic-holography will just have to be named something else......

in the future everything will disolve three months after purchasing it.
the economy will revolve around perpetual need and consumption.
they will ban all devices over three months old deeming them unsound for use.

Hadn't thought of that bill :'-( It would be just like the self destructing DVDs.You would "buy" a boombox hermetically sealed in a plastic baggy.Once you open this package exposing it to the air,the unit degrades over time until it is unusable. They would rationalize this by saying that you are buying time with the unit and do not own it.If you wanted to continue to listen, the process would be repeated. It would be sort of like service fee.Oops :dunce: ,better not give them any ideas :dunce:
