Hi everyone!

Did you ever forgot a code for your bike lock/keychain? This could be also titled: How to use a 500k Euro tool to solve a 15 Euro problem. But, call me thrifty.
Do not dispair, do not go to youtube. Just find a good human with a good will and an access to CT. Than do the following:

  1. Place the lock inside the gentry of the CT. Use regular one for humans (the microCT for lab animals lack the tube power - CT for humans have 60-120 kW tube). If you align the lock correctly, the process will be much easier.SifraZaBicikl01.jpgSifraZaBicikl02.jpg
  2. Scan the lock (1-2 mm slices are good-enough, no need for 0.3 mm).SifraZaBicikl03.jpg
  3. look for teeth and indentations that fit or do not fit.SifraZaBicikl_ne.pngSifraZaBicikl_da.png
  4. rotate the number ring accordingly.
  5. Repeat the from step 2 if necessary.
  6. Enjoy your bike lock.
No, I do not unlock the locks for fun/profit. I just forgot the code for my lock and made this to give you and idea how to solve this. I have several very good bike locks. They can be reset, and because of that, you can not brute-force them. So, I have asked around...

I think I’ve got a CT scanner in the back of the shed...I’ll try this out, thanks for the tip lol

Those type of locks are easy.
Put some tension by pulling and turn first digit, youll feel it move when right number is selected. Continue along and it’ll open. Simple.

Hi there!
First, the bolt cutters are out of the question. Cutting will render the lock=junk, and I have said... I am a bit thrifty.

Second, changing the digits and pulling will not work on this type of the lock. Look carefully, there are three indentations on each locking ring, probably with some other mechanism to set-up an arbitrary code. I tried on both, and it did not work. Perhaps it works when they are new? I had seen several videos on reddit, people could not unlock it in 45 min that way.

Cycling through 10 000 combinations would take about 20 000 - 30 000 seconds, or about 8 hours. I can use my day in more productive way. Perhaps someone will make a robot that does that?

I actually tried to take an X-ray image of this lock some time ago, but you have to have cross-section image for this job.

Finally, CT scanners are today in so many hospials, it was rather easy to ask a guy, who knows a guy.

It's possible, I've opened a couple like that from the thrift store bins. Took quite a while though. Certainly long enough to feel safe about it not being a security hole.

Yes you may as well use a piece of string!

Yes... it does work sometimes. Probably did not work on mine because it was otuside (rain, fog, mud, etc.) for a decade. The second one did not want to budge, I had to use a considerable force to open it. But, some cleaning and oil hepled. After I was positive I knew the correct code, of course.
.... and it is way better than the piece of string, despite not being immune to bolt cutter :)

$15 lock cost, compared to what happens to fast food the next day on the toilet. No one complains about the money wasted there.

I’m still using bolt cutters and using a better cable and lock next time around.
