How do I know if an old boombox I found is e-waste or rare?

I found a retro boombox in my attic in pretty good condition. I looked it up and there are literally no listings for it anymore. This is what I found out so far:
Its from a Japanese brand called NEC and from the early 80's I think. The German name is Stereo 8000 / Palladium 494/003 and its also known as NEC RM-1000RE.

I can't figure out if it is e-waste or rare. If someone knows more about this , I would really appreciate your help :D

(the attached image is from a wiki website, mine looks the same , I just haven't taken a proper picture)

NEC boxes are pretty rare in the US but not highly sought after, I'd say. Still, it has a funky late 70s look, which some collectors appreciate, and appears to be in good cosmetic condition. Someone would buy it for the right price.

I guess it's what you want from a box !
Most people tend to remember big flashy ghetto blasters from back in the day - breakdancing - music videos.
Once you start collecting there are two paths followed.
1. Collecting every box you come across, until you realise you have a bunch of junk with one or two really worth it - most of us have a pile like this, but can be used as spares/ parts.
2. Collecting grail boxes and then spreading out to certain models that you know are good and for certain reasons.
If you like it's looks then keep it - clean it up and see what you can do to it.
Boxes are getting harder to find as everyone selling thinks they know what they have - hence why prices are all over the shop or very high.
What most people don't realise, is that condition/everything working is not with every box, learning how to clean a box and how to get it running takes time.
Most just want the glory without the hard work.

So if you like a box that doesn't come up as one of the big hitters or a grail, then it's up to you if it's for you or not.
