Hi all,
15 days ago it was my birthday.
My parents asked me what I wanted, and that thing (one of my grails) arrived some days later...

That thing is in a really good condition, radio is well working, no big marks or scratches.
There is a broken antenna, the deck needs to be rebelted (can't be harder than my beloved M9998), and the LCD seems to be dead (will ask later for tricks to fix that LCD clock)...

Nice unit..I like the black..very few black boomers really catch my eye but this one looks the business for sure...

Always wanted 1 of those myself....I'm interested in hearing what the ported box speakers sound like...They are ported right?

Cheers,
Cpl

Yep.

That’s a later, slightly defeatured release of the TRK9150 as it’s missing the top mounted manual recording level sliders, mic mute switch and mic volume pot.

I do like these Hitachis - very nicely built. When you open her up, you’ll see one of the largest tape deck mechanisms in the history of boomboxes!!

Time to change the belts of this box has come...
So I dismantled it, disconnected lots of wires, but hey, that's far more easy than on my 9998...

This afternoon, I'll fit the new belts, and will begin to install leds...

Only issue for the moment : I found that metallic part in the box ! Does anybody knows where this is going ???

It's a retaining clip for the handle if you look in the first pic you'll see the other one on the other side.

Thx a lot, I was quite sure that it wasn't a loose part of the deck !!!
(and I should take a better look at my own pictures !!! )

By the way, 2 monthes ago, I was working in the garage, while listening radio via this 9150, and found that the sound was crakling.
In fact one woofer was "unglued", so I repaired it with neopren glue, and voila, it's loud again...

They make very good bass.....Tight bass, which is good for old-skool rap. Yes they are ported, but you gotta open them up to make sure the foam isn't blocking the port. Also they used cheap yellow foam which wasn't actually designed for speakers, so you can easily improve on that. Dynamat helps too.

The TRK-9900 speakers are built even better, with softer plastic, thicker wires, bigger magnets, and more accurate treble.

You know I always love these boxes now I must have one. They look like miniature tanks. The build quality in some of these Hitachi's really is fantastic.

I too love this "military look".
Led kit installed... Don't know if I'll keep those colors, but that's cool in the dark !

First I put red leds in the tuner window, then I changed my mind and replaced them with green's...

Might I enquirer as to your led installation? I'm looking to do similar to my 9150E but to be honest I don't know where to start.

Regards, Xander.
