Hi,
This is my first post here. I am trying to bring my Hitachi TRK-9140E back to life and I'm hoping to get help with some issues. I've owned this lovely BoomBox since new (guess 1980's) but it's been mothballed for many years. The radio works (albeit the Ariel is broken and needs replacing if I can find one) but the cassette deck doesn't work (a common age related problem I believe). I can hear the cassette motor running but nothing turns. I am by no means an expert on dismantling such equipment - even less of an expert in putting it all back together! However I have dismantled it sufficiently enough to gain access to the rear of the cassette deck where the belts are. I found one intact but loose belt, and just a lot of black goo on a number of other 'spools' (which were once rubber belts). I have cleaned it all (nightmare job), degreased, applied new grease etc. I never got the opportunity to see the positions of the original belts due to their degradation, so what I would like help on is: 1) where to buy new belts of the correct size (I'm in Southampton, 2) what to buy and 3) where to position them on the Hitachi TRK-9140E?
Also: Are belts for the TRK-9150 the same as my TRK-9140, does anyone have a schematic of belt positions for a TRK-9140E, and what is the purpose of the small component shown in red on the attached image? (NB I get the impression nothing has fallen off this particular component so not sure what function it serves)
Thank you very much in anticipation for any help. Regards, Carl
