Hello,

It's my first post, so I would like to say "Hi!" to everybody :-) .

I'm facing a small problem with my newly bought TRK 8600. When I'm closing cassette deck door with cassette in it, the cassette collides with the pinch roller. Same situation is during opening the door, the cassette is blocked by the pinch roller and the door needs a little assistance to get open. A photo is showing the problem.

I've searched for some photos of the 8600's mechanism, and on some photos the pinch roller is more deep under casstte comparing to mine unit. Unfortunately I'm not the first person who opened it  . So I'm judging that the spring or pinch roller is mounted incorrectly by previous owner. I have a service manual and tried to mount the roller as it shown in manual, but still, the cassette is colliding witch pinch roller.

Those boxes are ultra rare here in Poland, so I'm asking you guys if you have a 8600 model and can show me how the pinch roller should be mounted correctly? Main topic is the spring, how it should look like? And what is the correct placement for it in the mechanism? I see that mine spring was bended to a strange shape :-/ Maybe that's the clue?

Best regards,
Dominik.

Did you change the belts?
Could be a gear is out of alignment or potentially not turning as it should. May need a complete strip down of gears and remove old grease.
Someone may have photos of their pinch roller.

Yes, I've mounted new belts, because old ones did not exist and the whole deck was not working because the original motor was burned. Probably the black "sticky grease" which belt turned into blocked the motor and killed it  . New motor was mounted.

The pause gear seems to be working correctly. It turns on and off pause gracefully without any big effort. But you lead me to a conclusion @docs. I did not look into manual to check if all gears are placed correctly, to be precise the pause gear.
It might be that the previous person who have it could dismount the gears to "check" the mechanism.

It does sound like something mechanical/physical. Take a look at the setup manually and you may figure it out.

It was a long time since I was here.
It turned out that the spring was incorrectly placed and its shape was all wrong. I bended it like it should be and it solved the problem.

Hi there! Turns out I have the same problem. Might you have a picture of the correctly shaped and positioned spring that you saw that helped you fix the bent spring? Thanks!

sorry but it bugs me how these things get put back together wrong. if people studied how these things works before stripping it down then they will never have these problems..or the best thing to do is take photos before disassembling and take em during as well if its a big job..ive been doing these strip downs for over 30 years and i still take photos during disassembling..and its nice to keep each stereo repair in a separate photo folder. so if u come across this problem in the future u know where to look..sorted

Totally @Wes125. Unfortunately I got this TRK-8600E from eBay in its current state and 'fully tested' appears to have meant 'I connected it to the mains and a light came on'. I'm trying to work out what good looks like and those cassette mechanisms are amazing and complex!

But I do like a challenge :)

Good thing really.
