Hi all,

I was amazed to find this forum. I have just picked up a Hitachi TRK-8290 this week. It was the same boombox my brother had in 1981 and I was never allowed to touch it.. I used to secretly blare The Specials and Bob Marley when he was away.. we just moved from London to California) well now I have one and he doesn’t ;)

Anyway nostalgics aside, it’s missing one volume/bass slider knob and the loudness button. Is there any chance someone has one laying around? Also, what do you guys use to clean them up well without compromising any plastics?

Thanks!

Update.
Cleaned up and running. Soon to have a BT receiver and lithium battery pack added to battery bay. Just as my brothers old one used to sound. Loud and impressive for its size.

Congrats! It's a gorgeous box, a great representation of the style at the peak of their popularity.
Good luck with the mods and the knob search. You might even try looking at similar Hitachi models to find a match.
