Hi all,

With no previously intact belt in situ I would like to tap the expertise resource of forum members as to the route for the belt of my Hitachi TRK-8130 as it seems there may possibly be two different routes. To demonstrate the routes I've used a blue elastic band.

Route #1:
The centre pulley/wheel rotates in the opposite direction of the two outer pullies/wheels.
There is more contact/traction with the centre pulley/wheel.

Route #2:
The centre pulley/wheel rotates in the same direction of the two outer pullies/wheels.
There is less contact/traction with the centre pulley/wheel.

Also............May I safely guess that the profile of the pulley indicates this requires a square belt?

I hope someone can help, thanks in advance.

It's gonna be route 1 as it's very rare for it to be route 2 and around pulley. And yes to square belt. Good luck!!

Thanks, Bad Boy Bill. There seems to be so little traction on route #2 I feel instinctively it's not the one.

Hope your not using the rubber band except for guide ;-)

Yer darn tootin' I ain't! Perhaps I ought to have clarified the point with "Blue elastic band used for clarification and demonstration purposes only" or some such wording!

Yup pic 1 for sure. I have a similar Hitachi and that route looks familiar. Have you bought your belts yet? There is a company on ebpay that does a large mixed pack for about £15, comes from china so takes ages to get here but well worth it if your going to be fixin a few :)

Thank you very much indeed for the info and confirmation.

Yes, I have new belts.
Yes, I bought a mixed pack 'cos I've 3 BB's to do.
Yes, I paid £15.89, only took a couple of days to arrive.
Yes, I bought the pack off eBay listed as "Brand New Set of 30 All Different Square Section Rubber Belts Cassette / Audio".
The sellers' eBay shop is called 'Malvern Hills Audio' with a seller ID of 'dappletoft'.
Yes, that was spooky!!!

The belts in the pack are of quite a good range of sizes so I sorted one then fitted it into the TRK-8130, it fits nice and snug without being strained. I have two Hitachi TRK-8130's and A Sharp GF-9000 to do so I should now be well catered for in the ol' belts department as I need to replace every belt in all BB's 'cos they seemed to have lacked the love!

I'm also waiting for a delivery of a bottle of isopropyl alcohol, once this arrives I'll thoroughly re-clean all of the belt paths to ensure there's not even the tiniest particle of residue left that could interfere with a smoooooth operation!
