Today it's 75 degrees and not a cloud in the sky so I thought I would go hiking!

I took the General Electric 3-5286A with the Blu_Fuz clip on strap which works awesome with the built in strap clips on the GE 3-5286A. I used my cell phone with a small FM transmitter plugged into it to deliver the music selection.

It wasn't the longest hike, only 2.19 miles. I tracked it all with the MapMyHike app. You can see the details here: http://www.mapmyhike.com/workout/452365989

This is the first time I took this radio hiking and I have to say, it was great! The size is really good, even with regular Duracell's the weight is reasonable and was never an issue. Volume was never an issue either. I was in a small canyon most of the time and the sound was bouncing off the walls so I didn't need MONSTER BLASTER power. Running the volume knob at 35-50% with the loudness switch on gave me great full bodied sound.

With the strap extended all the way, my arm hung down right in front of the radio and when I needed too, I could just grab the cassette deck crash bar and hang on to the radio and swing it around bushes and rocks making it a very controlled situation. Plus with the controls on the face of the radio, all the knobs and switches were right where I needed them to be.

I had my music selection set to shuffle, which varied from Hard Rock to Dub Step which required some adjustments while on the move. One thing that is nice about the GE 3-5286A is the loudness switch. It changes the sound curve so dramatically that when the music changed from Sammy Hagar to Venetian Snares all I had to do was throw one switch and never missed a step.

All in all, it was a great day out in the sun with one of my favorite radios!

(BTW, I got this GE from member Reli last year and I'm still lovin' it...Thanks Reli :-D )

Damn i'm jealous that you can go off for nice hike. Not just because the scenery looks so great in Cali, but it always looks such nice weather, its fookin freezing here.

The weather in Southern Cali is good, it's just the 34 million people that live in California that is a drag

The GE 3-5286A is such a great looking box. I'd LOVE to get my hands on one.
Your SCR-6 is a much rarer box than this, you should have no trouble finding one. I see them on eBay all the time. I even found one in the wild at a swap meet :w00t: But what you really need is the optional strap. That makes life GREAT!

Well, I do find them on eBay a lot. People bid them up like crazy to very high prices, and more often than not, they have missing/broken switches, corroded battery contacts, etc. I'd perhaps like to find one on here like you did.

Yeah, I'm sure if you posted in the WANTED section someone might be willing to work with you. Not sure I have ever seen the SCR-6 and GE side by side. Here are two GE's!

Two of them! Nice! I think I'll give posting in that section a shot. It would be cool to have both the SCR-6 and the 3-5286A side by side. Thanks!

Ha ha you're not wrong...trouble is my dog insists on going for a walk whether its raining or snowing :-(

It's always cool to see a box in the great outdoors where they should be...looks like a fun day out :-)

Looks like fun times Chris!

My first box was the mono version of the 3-5286 - the 3-5280A - which was stolen by some crackhead. The date code on my replacement box is 5114 (May 11, 1984?).

What's the date code on yours? :hmmm:

Go!

Yeah all this great weather in winter means we are in a drought and are actuality screwed for water for next year. Thankfully I drink beer!

The date code sticker is still there but unreadable.

As fun as it is to go hiking in the wilderness, it's still funner to use a boombox in public places with people partying.

Super nice day man! Great pics and nice job butting that box and strap to work! I just made myself another strap like that for my SCR-8 and they really are just right for those mid size boxes with built in strap loops.

Rock on bro !

Ps, you are an everage to 'slim' dude, is the strap length good or do you need a few more inches? :-D
