Just a quick intro. I have just acquired a Sharp GF-575 boombox and plan to fix it up. I have never done anything on a boombox before, but have been doing lots of reading etc.
I love the memories I have from my teens that these boxes induce. I am 52 years old and have been looking for a project. I live Nr Preston, Lancashire in the UK.
Great site.....cheers!

20180304_133330.jpgHere is a pic of me with my new boombox. I just got it yesterday and have cleaned the capstans, rollers and heads. Both tapes play well, but don't like fast forward or rewind. So a major clean-up is on the cards. I just have a couple of clock radio cassettes to finalise first....

:hi:

Nice flat or home you have there.

You scored a nice one back in the days it was everybody's favorite Sharp.

Wow, thanks to all for the great welcomes. The 575 looks cleaner in the photo, although it is in fairly good shape :0)
I will do a restoration thread when I start.

I recognize that smile. These machines do bring back the memories don't they.

Welcome aboard!!!!

It's all about the memories growing up for me as well. Even though I have a few heavy hitters in the era of the pop culture boombox craze, my most valuable one (to me) is a very humble 3pc GE that was with me everywhere I went. When I take it out I grin just like in your picture. Currently I am making new memories with my recently acquired vintage collection in the last few years so I pretty much get that grin no matter which one I pull out now.

Glad to see you were able to get that special box back in your hand. One day I hope to hear that model box. I've heard they are great sounding. Taking it a step further is playing those tunes you grew up with on it. If your experience is anything like mine....a song will sneak up on you one day while listening to it that you forgot about....instantly jogging your memory of where you were, who you were with and what you were doing. A satisfying experience.

I look forward to see how your Sharp turns out. Plenty of help on here if you need it :-) Take care.
