Ought to come clean here and admit that I hit this site yesterday after rescuing this behemoth from a skip, with full intentions of just ruthlessly scavenging for info, mining for some nuggets and zipping off again before anyone had noticed they'd been burgled... but this is great!! What a fabulous spot on the interweb!

So here I am, balaclava removed, grappling hooks, silk gloves and all the other accoutrements abandoned. From Wales in the UK, background in electronics a looooong time ago, when all passive and active components weren't all squished into one horrible piece of silicone and when schematics were proper works of art.

Was really delighted to find a service manual for this - thank you so much. Now I've just got to work out why this baby has little to no volume, both channels, from different sources. I expect it took a knock when dumped although apart from the dirt it looks immaculate so hopefully just a strip down, clean and dry joint/pwb inspect.

All the best,

Linz

Congrats on your find, a great find indeed.
First step is to get inside and give all the switches and pots a contact clean with some specific contact spray and work them thoroughly. Don't miss the cassette deck record bar which usually resolves many issues.

Thanks Docs, much appreciated. Any recommendations on contact cleaner that won't damage the ancient carbon in the pots? And is it a light spray and work them, or disassembly and a gentle cotton bud approach?

Been looking through the schematics for common blocks between L & R channels, there's also the headphone socket and I need to do some research around Q117. Power supply looks good though with only 200mV ripple on the output - I fear it spent a night in the rain!

Thanks again

Try CPC online for their contact cleaner, that's what I use.
It is always better to disassemble and clean contacts fully but a small/medium amount of spray onto the carbon traces should not do any harm.
Taking them apart has its own risks, sometimes resulting in a completely broken slider.

Thanks Docs.

And thanks Hopey! The pinch roller is a bit brown but still pliable, belts look great and it plays OK. ..

The downside is if this box of loveliness is the start of a new collection my wife and mother of my children status might be at risk - the watches are so easy to hide

That's why I look in any dumpster or skip , my buddy Tj the trash man found full sets of Mac tools and gave them all to me.
