Now then everyone,ok so ill try and cut to the chase-bought from the carboot this morning a great pioneer sk 212.supplied with ac adaptor.or so i thought the right one.instead of checking before plugging it in,i just tried it-a little crackle, buzz on the unit and nothing-the idiot stall holder had supplied the wrong bloody adaptor!!!!im fuming while writing this :bang: yes guys i know i should have checked,so partly its my bad, but, time to ask the vital question-can this beauty be saved?ive already tried batteries but no response, which is wierd, why woulnt batteries work? :bang:
i have great knowlege when it comes to belt changing and the like but specific power issues like this baffle me
ive wanted another one of these for ages now so really dont want to have to throw it in the rubbish bin.can anyone please help?i promise you some great karma if you can  ;-)

si bro its not the fuse-because it doesnt have one?????well i cant see one anywhere on it!!!!!its dc only,9v or 6 c cells, but why the batteries dont work is anyones guess as ive checked and the battery supply is totally seperate to the transformer-if you or anyone can help si id be greatful-im not in a habit of wasting money so want to get it going

Some adapters comes with reversed polarity. Grrr!
On some it will be clearly marked to identify the center pin and outer sleeve for polarity.
I am afraid if it send a reverse polarity to the power rails. I hope not! :bang:

If it did that is nothing but disaster!

Time to grab a digital MultiMeter and start checking dc voltage starting from the battery terminals to board and switch.

thanks for the replies guys-ok,so a little late i know but been out and spent further money on a multi adaptor with a.the correct voltage and b.the correct polarity, and heres what happens.
when in radio mode-it hums.
switch to tape, and power is getting into it because it engages but the belts need changing so cant say if it will play right-yet.notioced yesterday that one joint had cracked that holds the inlet dc mains supply to the circuit board,so attempted to remove old solder and put a new blob of solder on.sadly some of the circuit board track removed with the old solder, but still appeared to get a good joint with the remaining good track around the solder point.
so without buying the multimeter that i dont currently have, can anyone see a way forward for it :hmmm:

DC only? If you had wrong polarity, you may blew one or few capacitors. Check the big ones near the power supply in... Should have some. The biggest caps are normally in the "power line". A big electolyte cap can blow up radically when the polarity is reversed!

Here's something.
