Hello, I've used cassette decks for as long as i can remember but i'm very new to actually working on them. I recently acquired a very dirty Sharp GF-575 and It has an issue with deck 2, it plays beautifully but after a short while of playing it starts slowing down, to me it seems quite an obscure issue as i'm used to only mucking about with computers and digital stuff.

The second issue is with deck, it will play only after mashing play, stop and record multiple times and when it does play it will only work on one channel, whereas the tuner, aux and deck 2 will work on both channels.

Can anyone please offer some insight on what any of these issues might be? It would be very much appreciated :)))

Thank you

That is one Sharp model I don't have.

I would replace the belts and also clean all the switches with deoxit. The long record bar cleaning is a must. It is a the root cause of so many problems.

Our knowledgeable members here will have better suggestions.

Thank you for your suggestion, when I get a bit of spare money to play with I'll spend it on belts and deoxit, also sorry to annoy you with my inexperience but what is a long record bar? When I try a Google search it presents me with turntable related pages.

No worries! It is the long switch connected through levers when you press the record button. This is a long bar switch with many leads soldered to the PC board. You will see the end of the moving part from both sides of the switch. Spray deoxit through the holes of the switch from the top and also from the ends and move the end of the switch back and forth. like 30 times, the movement will be like 5mm.

I am attaching a picture of the record switch of JVC M70. You will have some idea about how it looks from this picture. I marked it with white lines.
