Hello. I'm a newbie in Boombox Customization. Planning to upgrade factory light and install LED to the Cassette Compartment for my Sony CFS-88,JVC-3090 and Sharp CT-6001.
Few questions here,
1)How can I determine where to source power to the LED/LED Strips?
2)What equipment do I need?
3)Does resistor required, if so what specific resistor required?

Any input from y'all very much appreciated.

Modification is an interesting idea that will bring more shine to your box.
1 - 3 boxes are different. so the approach will be individual.
a source of 12 volt DC must be found - you need multimeter
2 - multimeter, soldering iron, LED Strips, LEDs, cables, switches, resistors, screwdrivers for disassembly the case and other similar tools
3 - depending on the specific situation - to reduce the voltage or current...
4 - the most important thing is to have a clear concept of what you want to get as a final result,
patience, free time and knowledge of electronics.
Good luck...

I made LED mods for several boomboxes. I decided, that the cassette compartment should be illuminated, when a cassette is playing. So, it was quite easy. The capstan motors in most BB's or Tape Decks have 9V or 12V. I just connected a piece of a 12V LED stripe to + and - on capstan motor. That's it.
Here some examples:

Thanks for your input. Specific place to look for power source? General idea

Ohh man....Love your work.... That's exactly what I want to do. Do you use resistor for the LEDs?

No, I just used parts of self-adhesive LED stripes.
Something like this:
Example

They already have resistors included. Depending on the type you can cut them every 3...5 LED's. You find such stripes in different colors and with different voltages.
