Hi guys,
Thanks for the add. I am 47 next month and collect 1980 BMXs. I have never owned a boombox and always wanted one. I bought the Sharp GF 555 (arrived yesterday). I think the utopia would be to own something like a 9696. I wanted it to remind me of the 80s, breakdancing and that whole incredible era.
My GF555 is in fairly decent condition. The radio works, although when you adjust the volume it sounds terrible. Needs new aerials, lots of cleaning and I think belts.
I have never restored anything electrical so yesterday I carefully separated it into three parts, body, front and back. Seems to be a guy on YouTube who shows how to get the cassette mechanism out.
Any help with GF 555 on belts I need, aerials and things to watch out for would be great. Going to browse through now and see what's going on!
