I want to say "Hi!" to all the boombox fanatics. As for me, I growed up in the time of boomboxes, but I lived in Eastern Germany - we had boxes, yes, but without "boom". There was only one boombox sold in Eastern Germany, the Sanyo M4500KE - a nice black device. The price was high, about 2600 east german marks, the salary of 3 months...

I'm not a hardcore collector - but if I can catch one for free or less money, I do so and repair it.

At the moment I have the following devices:

2x Universum CTR 2605,called "Super Sound 16000", sold in U.S. as Telefunken CR-8200
2x Sanyo M4500KE (one for parts)
1x Hitachi TRK-8110e (needs case repair)
1x Tensai RTC 8310 (labeled as Palladium)
1x Yihling FM-Stereo-MW-TV-Cassette 4914 (NOS, in original box), not really a boombox but nice.
1x Panasonic RX-FT510 (daily rocker, not "oldschool" but works)

regards, Marco

Hello &welcome Marco. I remember driving across, into Eastern Germany when the wall came down. I remember the looks we got as we drove throughout that area. Guard towers along the roads and people looking ay us because of the clothes we wore, etc. I still have a piece of the wall I brought back with Me. Glad to have you with Us. Happy hunting ;-)

Yes, it was a wild time. I was an young soldier and wasn't allowed to visit the west for weeks after the wall was opened. Then I made my first trip to West Berlin. I could use the tube for free and so I did a big sightseeing trip. All I bought this day was a can of Coke, because all my money were only 100 Deutschmarks :) One of the best days in my life. When I returned to the barracks at late night, I met another soldier - he made a Berlin trip, too - but he bought a used big silver JVC Boombox there. Wow. What a great stereo sound!

Welcome! I remember as a kid looking across the wall in 1983 on a trip to West Berlin to play "American Football" with other military family kids. It was spooky to have the guards look right at us because we had shirts that said "West Germany and USA United Together for Freedom" and I guess someone in the tower spotted us.

@all: thank you for your warm Welcome! I think, this board is a good place to stay. I will show you my devices soon. Now it's very late here in Germany - so I wish you a good night. Bye Marco

Welcome :-) The Universum is very nice sounding. But I am surprised you do not have an RFT. :-) https://boomboxery.com/forum/index.php?/topic/12253-skr-501the-monster-box-from-east-germanynice-leds/
