Hello

I'm quite a nostalgic guy and I recently bought a sony FH-9 in an average condition. I was told it was working well but the cassette deck has all sorts of troubles, the first being missing parts. But to be honest the price was low and I got the assorted PSQ-3 so I guess I can't really complain.
I'm more used to the late 80s, early 90s panasonic units and until recently I did not know sony had made such appealing "boomboxes" in the mid 80s.

bye

:hi: to forum. Yes, those Sony FH systems was very good quality.
Missing parts on cassette deck is big problem and hard to resolve.
You can post some pictures.

Thank you

Good quality and as some one said: "Sony produced an astronomical amount of later FH systems ; apart from the similar FH-7 MKII or the rare FH-9 (september 1983), none managed to be as cute a bestseller as the orginal HELI / FH-7."

My favorite look-wise is the silver mk1 FH7, such a pure, neat looking system. To me it's a bit of a dilemna. To be honest I find the sound of the FH9 (same speakers as the mk1 FH7) a bit flat, lacking some bass. I'm not a bass freak but we're so used to bass nowadays.
The speakers on the MKIII certainly sound better but the design lost some of its purity and so did the FH system series with the years in my view.

I'm still a bit suprised by the unreliabilty of the sony cassette decks. My brother has a 30+ yo panasonic rx something and the double automated deck still works fine despite a rough life.

Thank you master blaster, nice pic of LL cool J. I can see the appeal of those massive boomboxes.

The other day when I was trying it for the first time, first thing I heard on the radio was relax from frankie goes to hollywood which came out in october 1983. It's funny because it was built in september 1983. Is it a sign? I'm 48 and for me the early 80s were the best years of my life. 83 is when I started to get really into music so listening to songs from that era brings back sweet vibes.

I'm thinking of buying some apm speakers just to listen to the difference with those I have (same as FH7 MKI).
