Wow! I'm glad I found this site. I spent my formative teen years in the 1980s and went through a few boomboxes and Walkmen (most of which I still own). I did manage to get my hands on a new old stock Pioneer SK-757F recently, which was my first box (received for my birthday back in 1982 when we were stationed in the Philippines - I was a brat). Unfortunately, it didn't survive the move when we were transferred to Korea. A rattan couch went through it and my halloween mask completely melted across the front. Uncle Sam gave my parents $50 for the trouble, but I never saw any of it.
Right now I'm doing a careful cleaning on the NOS Pioneer box. The speakers are getting refoamed, etc. and this website seems to have all the information I need to be successful at it. I was lucky enough to get my hands on the original factory service manual as well, so I'm hoping that with a little luck, I'll get to roll through my old tape collection in no time.
Anyway, as Steve Martin once said, "It's really great to be here."
