Hello to all from southern England.

I joined the community last week and have been looking around, posted a few times as well, and as I have received my first boombox today i thought i should introduce myself

25/M/UK and proud owner of 2, yes 2, boomboxes. I had a strong desire last week to find a boombox and after signing up to Boomboxery and looking about I thought I should jump straight into it and buy a couple. Both Cheap and both from eBay

Number 1 - Ferguson 3T22

Love it, sound great, nice and big. Cassette decks are a little tired but that gives me a chance to have a tinker

Number 2 - Fisher PH-W546L

 Looks cool but is very tatty and the sound is horrid

Cant wait to add to my collection. Where do you guys find your boxes? anyone in the UK have any tips? I will have to try some charity shops, car boots and council tips.

EDIT
I Also got this, greatest album ever

Welcome aboard, Brant! If you hang around here long enough, you'll soon have a house full of boomboxes.

That Ferguson is the dogs bollocks for sure - what a beauty! The speaker design made me think of Sony though. What an adorable little girl too.

Greetings to yet another new UK-based member. Tips is it eh? Best one I have to offer is - for eBay potential purchases - check out a seller's feedback as thoroughly as you can, ask as many questions as you dare. As long as buyers aren't offensive or making derogatory comments about the seller's items then most people are willing to discuss your points amicably.
Then consider buying from overseas. eBay.de has been a good source of old electronic kit for me and German sellers have never yet failed to describe accurately anything I've bought from there. Many US sellers will ship to the UK, worth considering for rare and desirable boxes where the shipping charge is less of an issue than it would be for some bog-standard, club book-sourced brand such as Triumph or Cathay, whose generic boxes tend to sell for under a tenner in mint condition at local roups and car boot fairs.

Lastly, let your instinct play its part in buying decisions - if a transaction doesn't "feel" right, then chances are it's not.
Now get out there and buy stuff! :-)

Welcome to the insane world of boombox collecting :-D

Charity shops aren't a great source, only found 1 decent one there. Tips are a no go as for legal reasons once its in the tip it can't come out. Yet to find anything but junk at car boots too. Most of mine have come from eBay but 3 of my best all came from forum members

Wander the forum and see what boxes are quality and take your fancy then buy buy buy  But be prepared to do repairs and servicing as there's pretty much no where to get them serviced. But it's not too difficult to learn the basics.

Oh and get some shelves built so that when you get totally carried away you've got somewhere to put the damned things

Sure soon you will have a full house of boomers. Be careful at the beginning - dont buy every one which you see . Soon you will find that the rare , good boomers are quite pricey too. Save your cash for good , worthy models.Make your mind of what you like actually ( dont listen much this "grail hype" ) . Here on the forum members selling good boomers often too. And we are honest between us  .
Its good sickness actually

Welcome man!
I have the exact same Ferguson. I can tell you though, if you think it sounds great, you ain't seen nothing yet :-D, I thought so first as well, but it's just nothing compared to a JVC M70 or Crown 850. It's also my smallest one  , but I like it for sentimental reasons. Missing all the levers but one though..
Good luck with the collection!

Peace

Welcome friend. I can only echo whatbothers have said, boxes in the wild are slim pickings in the UK. Having said that theres a big British Heart Foundation shop in Southampton that sells electricals.

Thanks for the welcome everyone.

Ordered some new belts this morning, look forward to tinkering. :-) :-)

I'll look out for that heart Foundation shop next time I'm in Southampton, although I try not to go very often. Play up Pompey!!

Thanks again everyone

Welcome, BRANT!!!

It is true. You will start off with one or two...

Then before you know it, you realize you either must prioritize your needs (not wants :-P ) or just give in to the fever...
