I'm brand new here and I'm currently the proud owner of zero boomboxes. I've decided that number is a bit low. I've checked the thrift stores and the antique malls and the pawn shops and even my neighbors garage sale and so far nothing unless you count those plastic things with the speakers that come off and the CD compartments instead of tape decks which I'm pretty sure you don't. Oh well.

"Things are gonna change I can feel it!..."

Hope everyone's new year is off to a good start!

Welcome Foreverlo, might I suggest something in a vintage Panasonic. They generally age very nicely and have a pretty sweet sound.Perhaps an rx-5150 or a rx5110.Anyway whatever you decide, don't hesitate to ask for advice. There's a lot of great, helpful guys and gals here.Once again welcome.

Thanks for the welcome and the advice. I'll look into the Panasonics. Those are the ones with the "Ambience" option right? So far I really like the style of the JVC 838 and the Sharp 9696 but it looks like I may be able to get one of the Panasonics for a little less. Might be a good starting point.

There are tons of options. The hardest part is figuring out what your 'ears' 'eyes' and your 'wife' wants! Hahaa

Good luck and welcome!!!

Welcome and my personal opinion is post 50 to 100 posts here and then you can purchase from a member here. Most of the units are restored so you know your getting something good and should last. Otherwise be ready to have to restore it 😉

Welcome, welcome ! Don't worry, your first box will likely come from an unexpected quarter - mine did ! A friend asked me if I wanted to have a look at some old computer gear in his garage (I'm an IT Engineer) so I popped round. The kit was garbage, but then I spied the other stuff he was about to dump including the Toshiba RT-8097 which I now own. It's not a classic, but it got me into the hobby :-) Keep your eyes peeled and say yes to looking in peoples' garages !!
