Normally I only work on boomboxes during the winter months, but seeing as this is a Wheely 5000, I just couldn't wait to open it up and have a look. I'm in no hurry to finish this thing, so it may take a while, but the goal is to bring this 5000 back to it's former glory.

Here's what I started with:

It's actually pretty clean inside. Has two broken screw posts, all four of the corner mounting points for the cassette decks are snapped off, the power button is all messed up, and the speaker grills are pushed in:

The belts for the cassette decks are completely dry rotted:

Here's the pieces that were rolling around inside the 5000:

Hahaha! Thanks for the picture Joe!

That piece does kind of look like an anchor, but it's not hollow on the inside. I can't see anyplace on the radio where it would go. I'm guessing it doesn't belong here, but I'll hang onto it for now.....just in case.

One observation about the Wheely. The way the handle is mounted on this thing seems very flimsy to me. I expected it to be a bit more beefy in that area. Only thought I have is that maybe when these were manufactured, the thought was that people would only be using the handle to help roll these monsters around on the wheels and that most people wouldn't bother to ever carry them????
