Anyone converted the Victor M70 90fm radio dial to the JVC M70 108fm dial?

I would be interested to do this if it doesn't require changing the Victor case in any way.....

Any input is appreciated.

If the tuner board is completely separate like in the M90, I would think it would be possible. I'm sure Norm will chime in with a more technical answer though. :-) I think it goes without saying that you will need a working M70 donor box.

You need an M70 tuner and you need a new top panel since the US tuner is multiband vs 2-bands for the japan model. The multiband tuner will need the additional switch relief holes to accomodate the extra bands. Also, the connector is slightly different so you'll need to do some rewiring. The upside to the swap is that the multiband top panel has US lettering.

Hmmmm.

I was hoping to hear that I could leave the original Victor case alone to keep the chinese writing. That was the only important part of the swap.

I guess it's not what I was hoping :-/

thats the only part that mostly is a problem,, i had that issue with my 9696 so i only used the dial face that was black but had to use the original top piece feature on the jap writing was diffrent on the us one :-) .. but at least on yours the front badge says victor

Personally, I don't see the attachment to the japanese writing. I'd much prefer the US lettering myself although the pitch control feature and cool phono-dog victor nameplate are real cool differences that I'd want to keep. Otherwise I'd rip out that tuner and top panel in a sec and not think twice about it.

blu I think you can swap the tuner board easy enough but the riskier issue is changing the scale. You'll have to remove the tuner glass without cracking or stressing it which can be touchy since it's glued on.

My disclaimer:
My answer is strictly for entertainment purposes, any and all damage to your boomer as a result of following any of my suggestions is completely your fault. :-P

well i think you could unsolder the switches you are not going to use ,if the am/fm switches align in the same holes as the top piece ,, or at least cut the tips of the plastic off since it would be under the the top trim plate that could be a posibility but the only thing would be the dial unless you are ok and just tune until you hear your favorite station.... :-) :-)

I actually have all the necessary parts to do the swap on my Victor M70 but with the Holidays I am going to wait till January to do it. I will let you know how it turns out... :-D

...if you have the parts it is not real difficult, takes some patience though, but basically just a parts swap. I have a spare US M70 chassis with all parts intact, top piece, and tuner glass...that is basically all you need. I'm just too lazy to dig into it right now.... :-D

The fine tuning knob is not essential. If you ever look at one and how they are actually implemented, it's a rather crude device and only works on the SW so it can be safely left out and probably won't even be noticed.
