dont clamp it to a straight object --leave it it the hot sun all day
and expect ANY results

DO what norm has suggested :super: :superduper:
but be a LITTLE smarter :-) :-) :-P

1. cut an exact 'press fit' groove in a 2 x 3
2. jam your warped handle in the groove --
you might have to force it in with a vice
( if the warp is severe )
3. place the wood with the inserted handle
in a microwave for about 75 seconds
4. with gloves - grab the WOOD ( not the plastic handle )
and run it under cold water
5. let it all cool down for a few minutes

DONE

Where in the heck do you find a microwave oven big enough to bake a handle in a 2x4?  If you were in TX, I might understand.

Plastics usually have a very good memory-retention. Meaning that when heated to a certain temperature they will go back to the shape the were originally created in. I find that a hair dryer or heat gun will perform the job nicely too.

And for those lacking Ira's elite wood craftsmanship skills I reckon a metal tube of the correct diameter could be put through the hollow handle after the handle's been heated to give it a form to straighten to.

Awesome topic guys!

Rock On.

metal tube = good idea :hmmm:
( but not in a microwave )
-------------------------------------

and norm --we have a big combo convection//microwave oven -

the handle --at 18 " --was the diagonal -
and the ends of the 2x3 were rounded -
just to make it fit

Great stuff Ira! We can make this a sticky. We'll leave it here for the time being before placing in in restorations where it should be. :-D
