Main points:
Fix cassette door hinge
Clean
Deox
Polish the chrome, its nasty
Find out if the VUs are stuck because they are broke or if they are dirty

Beautiful box to open and work on.
Not packed like some boxes where one has to remove PC boards to access deck and clean tone controls and all.
Sanyo M9998 is one of the worst I've seen for any access to service. I've 2 in my collection and I always hesitate to work on them.

Wife was busy, so I polished my knob.......

Actually i polished all the knobs and washed the front case. Chrome speaker trims still need some polishing but most of the crud layer cleaned off.

More polishing, chrome is all done. Even found the original protective cling on the VU meter enclosure aluminum.

Daaaaaaang, finally back together and sounds way better than expected!

I couldn't get the VU meters to 'un-stick' and the cassette FF, no RW and the heads don't stay up to play. It will play of I push the heads up. Cassette door hinge repair is holding strong. There is a faint clear sticker stuck on the cassette door, almost cooked on. I didn't dare try peeling it because it was crusty and hard and I'm sure it would have been a big problem to get the door polished after removing the sticker.


This was a turd when it got here. Now with the chrome shined up and the crud off the case, I'm happy I spent the time cleaning it up.

These speakers are almost built exactly like Lasonics so it will stay just like it is. Sounds surprisingly good.
