Short story long....

Wife was searching Craig's List this past weekend and found a few radios. This one was semi close, sent an email. No reply. No big deal. Then mid week, got a reply, asking me to send a text to the number provided. Sent text, NO REPLY!

Then yesterday, got a reply asking if I'm still interested, I said yes and set up a time to see it. I was told to call at a specific time, I called, NO ANSWER. I get a text back after 9pm, that she couldn't hook up, maybe tomorrow.

I send a text today, get a reply that we are still on for 7pm. I send a text at 6pm saying I'm heading out, she says cool. I drive an hour.

I get there, address is cr@p. I call, get message machine!

BUT, then I get a call back, she is only right around the corner!

I was told to bring batteries to test...She wanted $60, it barely powered up, got it for $30.

Sanyo M-X650K

It's rough....very dirty, rusted speaker grill, very low volume through the speakers, no working deck, bent antenna, yellowed tuner plexi. But line in and radio works and it's complete, all knobs and battery door. I'm hoping a good deoxit will bring it back to life.

Any thoughts on this radio?

Thanks guys....I have seen this radio on the site before, I'm hoping she will be fixable. I have the case open now, cleaning switches, unplugging and replugging connectors. I'm hoping the low power is a dirty contact some where. I needs full belts, but the main drive belt was just off the flywheel, so I just need a smaller square belt and the counter belt.

It's not that filthy, but it's dirty for sure.

It's never been opened. There is nothing like turning the screw and hearing the virgin CRACK! (keep it clean!) I love that! Means no one has been in there messin' things up. That's My Job! :-D

I never really looked at the price on these, but I have seen many here on Boomboxery and like most times, when the gang says it's good, it always is!

Dude, you're 80% of my stress! I got to beat out the younger guy just to get a box in this county! I know you're watching CL too....I was shocked you didn't scoop it up! I got lucky on this one! Now I figure there is little or no chance of ever getting a Sony    I wish you would have never showed me how sweet those are :-/ :-D

Well, I tore into this sucker....look in the restoration section for the cleanup thread :-D

A few years ago when I brought home all those radio from Japan, everyone of them was a virgin. Every screw gave that satisfying ""SNAP" for the very first time. Not to mention all the hardware was these and all the screws matched! That's the best. Like working on a vintage car that is all stock and original. Your the first one to play with it. I Love That!

"You can restore it a thousand times, but it's only original once..."

Great story and whatnot, but the question remains: was it worth going through all that bullish!t to get it?

Considering the rarity of the box...

Yeah, I think it was worth the effort....I'm not sure this is a rare box or anything. I have never seen one in person, but I see them all the time on this site, so I don't think it's rare.

One thing for sure....It looks AWESOME in my collection and THAT makes it worth it.

Nice box Chris, reminds me of an Aiwa that has a similar layout.
TOTALLY. I'm not sure if I'm more in love with the Awia and that's why I got this or not, but it's still a nice radio!
