I obtained this Marantz CRS-4000.
Hardly anything wrong other than the standard scratchy switches even the meter and tuner lights work.
It must have been used in a kitchen--but a high class kitchen--there were layers of grease--but high class grease--you know?--Not your standard hamburger joint greasing---making for about 2&1/2 hours of clean up.
It came with a Marantz brochure, owners manual (my first one ever) and the original sales slip--$278.00 in 1978---!!
So far it's working like a champ and sounds great....!
Many unusual design features--10 D batteries go into the bottom of the box--not the back as usual--
the extension speaker outlets are separated on on each side of the box on the lower casing edge--
the antenna pulls straight up--doesn't angle and must be six feet tall---
This is my second Marantz the other being a CRS-2100--and i love these machines..they are very unique compared to my other boxes--very different sound and when handling a different feel to them.

I love the early to late 70's blasters of quality. They all have that old-skool Hi-Fi/Field Radio Hybrid look of a sort. Heavy metal stick toggles, white Tuning & VU meters, traditional long scale tuning dials, big chunky Cassette buttons, heavy duty molded grilles that could withstand quarry blasting & a tank-like tape transport that would deal with Viet Nam better than a late 80's Yorx could deal with a walk in the park.

I want some of them more than the 80's stuff.....

I have the same one in mint condition! It is so beautiful!
Gorgeous looking box and sounds fantastic!
DO NOT COMPARE with M70. These were the best boomers from the mid 70s.

I'll post pic later

I have a very similar unit, I think mine is a 4002 or 4003?

Yours is a nice looking, complete box. Mine looks like it was found at the bottom of a lake :-D

I think the 4800 looks a bit cooler with the different styled tweets in front of the woofers. Has a sneaky second tape deck in the side also.

Little dusty at the moment sorry guys. The CRS-5000 (which I don't have) is the only boomer (I know of) with a 3 head tape deck.

Thanks so much---
Right now I have this unit set up next to a reproduction mid-century phonograph my wife gave me as a birthday present---
We have a bungalow build in 1903---the system matches the style and feel pretty well i think---and sounds excellent---

Wow, incredible how they squeezed that in there. Is everything else the same as the 4000? 10 D-cells?
