Hi all,
Thanks for accepting my registration to your very informative site. I'm located near Hamilton, Ontario and have a Panasonic RX-5080 (actually two - one I bought new from an electronics shop in Troy, New York when I was 16, and the second "parts" one I just picked up on eBay), and I just picked up an RX-CT990 from Kijiji for $30. The 5080 developed a stuck tuner over the years and I have recently opened it up and using some needle nose pliers I was able to "adjust" (or "persuade"...perhaps?) the varicap to a favourite radio station before reassembling it. Hoping that the parts box will have a working tuner and I can swap the whole board into my old box. Initially the 990 worked well - used it in the garage and at the pool - but last night we went to the local drive-in for a quadruple bill night and used the box for the audio while we sat in front of the car. The box was powered by a 12v line from the car and in the midst of an action sequence of the first movie suddenly the bass cut out and it appears that the woofers both died - they won't pass any current. Strange. Ah well......more winter projects for me. Looking forward to discussions about these, and other boxes. In the meantime.....here is a picture of the boxes I took while cleaning out the car for the Drive-in....
