Hello boombox fans, new member here from Richmond NSW Australia. A quick little tale for you...... a few months ago my wife and i dropped round a friends house for a few drinks and a get together. As my friend and i were haveing a quick guitar jam in the kitchen, he popped a tape into his old boombox- a Dynasty Dscolite. Man, i was knocked out, i couldn't help but to droola nd fawn over the thing all night.
Long story cut short, popped round for Boxing day drinks and to exchange crimbo gifts- big present for me in the corner. Yup, a very nice condition Discolite Breakdancer BD-8000. All lights working fine, in fact everything is in A1 condition.
At fist i said "i couldn't possibly have it", it is just too pimp and i couldn't deprive him of his box. He said "come through to the kitchen", and bingo bango boingo, he had another one all fired up and ready to go........

Now i have only just realised there is a following for these things, i just fell in love with it the first time i saw it and can fully appreciate the attraction. Photo's to follow soon folks...

The Hawkesbury area in NSW must be a hotspot for these things, as he picked up both units in garage sales. Now i would never part with the Breakdancer, but could somebody please give me an idea of their value please- i was going to use this under the pergola for listening to music on a summers evening, and if it is too rare or hard/expensive to replace i may just keep it indoors for the time being.

Welcome, Nickyboyo! Great to have another blaster appreciator in Australia.

That model of radio can fetch up to $1500 on u.s ebay and about $700 to a grand on .au ebay.
As kingrat says, since it was featured in a bunch of Madonna music videos a few years back the value has increased a hell of a lot.
Check out Madonna's Hung Up video for reference. Since then it's been featured in enough music videos to maintain it's pop culture cache.
The fact it's so cheaply constructed means theres less and less about in good to mint working condition.

But, and this is the main thing though, you have to ENJOY it! You wouldn't want to have a rolls royce sitting in your garage while you drive a festiva around cause it's too expensive, by the same token an unused ghettoblaster is like a wild bird who's not allowed to fly. Getting use out of her just like you described is the perfect idea!

Really happy you have one of these excellent boomboxes, it's a great place to start if you're going to collect them!!

Be aware though, luck and blaster-karma play a big role in finding the models you want.
And if you just want to have a DiscoLite and don't want any others I think you'll have fun here too!!

Best of luck in this wonderful hobby, Nickyboyo!

Using it daily as advised ;-)

Just a shame it's not the typical Aussie summer day and it's being used in glorious sunshine.....

Ohh lovely specimen.
I've never seen a Breakdancer with silver lettering on the grills for the Audio Visual Diso Lite stuff either! Usually it's in gold.
And yours is a 'stealth model', as Ira calls them! (Black around the LED patterns as opposed to gold).

Theres hundred of variations though, but yours is a definite classic!

Blast her in good health!

Rock On.
