GPO Brooklyn Boombox on Channel 5 gadget show?

I have just watched the Gadget Show and at the end of the show they told us what will be on next weeks show (Friday 23rd November at 7.00pm) They will be looking at new/old music tech and im pretty sure they briefly showed the GPO boombox. If so it will be interesting to see what the Gadget Show presenters make of it?

I live in the UK. Episodes are available on the Gadget Show website http://thegadgetshow.co.uk and on the Channel 5 catch up app My5 but im not sure if you can watch outside of UK? If it does work they are definitely worth watching and very entertaining too IMHO

With the advent of cheap glass D amp technology, any modern box SHOULD blow ANY vintage box into the weeds for sheer loudness and bass production but the GPO box would be thrashed but many vintage heavy hitters.

But any marketing guru will tell you the look, number of features and the amount of shiny bling will always win over sound quality and RMS output numbers.

The GPO would make an ideal amp and power supply (battery) upgrade project. You’d have to toss the factory speakers but imagine that thing with a pair of fat, chrome capped drivers?! Carve out the tweeter hole and mount some nice silk dome tweeters and some good crossovers and you’d be all set for any street battle.

I love the vintage look, it just needs more ponies under the hood.

Heads up! The Gadget Show (hopefully featuring the GPO Brooklyn)is on tonight! 7.00pm on Channel 5... It will be interesting to see what the Gadget Show presenters make of it.

So did anyone see the show? I think the conclusion was the GPO looks better than it sounds especially when it was competing with that CD player with valves 😎

Problem with programmes like the Gadget Show is that pretty much all the so called "Tests" are wildly inaccurate & products "Compared" are always in a different league!! They compared Mp3, Vinyl Records & CD in an old episode & it was hilarious to watch those clowns vote Mp3 the winner
Loads of so called "Experts" too that wouldn't know a boombox from a ****ing Hoover!!

Absolute crap telly misinforming the viewer in so many ways..........

However, I almost always watch it purely to see what they can **** up next with poor misinformed verdicts!!

Apart from those points, I do have it on, often while I am inside a boombox re-belting or soldering iron & illuminated magnifier in hand checking for dry joints...............The GPO whether you love or hate it was not given anywhere near a fair honest opinion on this nonsense program!!

I'm with Jimmy here: I am going to buy one early in the new year & very likely change the speakers for something better probably co-axial so I have a real tweeter!!

Incidentally, that Mickey Mouse turntable on the Gadget Show was a disgrace to the manufacturer - Yamaha was it?? I can't remember at the minute but a quality manufacturer producing this horrible "Hybrid" analogue/digital turntable thing!! Golden age readers will know what I mean - Just awful & true to form they praised it up like it was the latest must have thing!

Oh & lastly, I enjoyed watching it much more without the bloody turkey Craig Charles presenting!! Can't stand that twonk - He emphasises the fact that the programme is SO scripted that it hurts!
At least Jason Bradbury was likeable & a true gadget fiend, that Charles is just dreadful!!
