Jens started a thread like this back on S2G, and I went nuts! Twins are my collecting obsession! I’m crazy about owning twin boomboxes… not identical twins (2 exactly the same), but lookalike twins… 2 boomboxes that are the same model from the same manufacturer, but that have different brand names, features, colors, etc. Jens lists pretty much all versions of all boxes in his bbdb, but I wonder how many of us actually own more than one version of the same box.

Do you own twins (or triplets or quads or you-name-it)? Show them here!

Here’s my latest pair to get things started: a Panasonic RX-5200 and a Quasar GX-3641. The Quasar is an just upscale version of the Panasonic… darker color and digital clock/timer/counter/memory (and a light).

I was just looking at how one has the buttons under the tuning dial and the other one doesn't, with the new pic they look like twins

The buttons under the dial are all part of the LCD clock: timer, sleep, counter, memory and light. The 5200 doesn't have a clock, so no buttons. The 5200 also has a mechanical tape counter under the tape deck door, which the LCD box doesn't have/need because the tape counter is one of the functions of the digital clock.

So... I guess you could say that, if the 5130 and 3641 are the actual twins, that makes the 5200 the parent. :-D

Any other pairs out there?

Except one has a "birthmark" on its left side. ;-)

Nothing wrong with identical 5050's. When a box is that good, it's nice to have more than one!

I'm pretty sure I can come up with a couple of fraternal twins that go with your identical twins...

(yeah... kind of like that)

...just give me a little while to look around..

I promise you'll be the first to know.

Hey Roman... what models are the 3-way speaker Philips boxes? I like the grilles/no grilles variation. Any other diiferences?

Oldskool... Go get 'em and post 'em up. The more twins, the better! :-) :-)
