1972 started viennas first subway, the "U1"
The "silver arrows" became famous with the opening of 5 subway-lines.
But now the time is over. :-/
The first wagons started the last trip to the scrapyard.... :'-(

I hate progress on expense of something everybody loves.
People should learn to preserve the past in order to get good progress rolling.
Driving those to a scrap yard is a pity and very sad to see.

I'm surprised they aren't graffitied. They are still very clean.

Do you have any pictures of the new replacement subway trains?

If one wagon gets sprayed, it goes after the next turn to the depot.
Fast cleaning prevends too much vandalism on it. ;-)

A few more pics for the interested:

First it started with steam locos.
The first electrics have been modified tram cars with multiple controller. Type N

Then the "red cars" came. Type N1
The same like the first one but with more modern (ugly) design
Most people called them "the boxes"
