Sorry not sure what you mean…90 for you to buy it or for you to restore it for someone else? If it’s to buy then do it very quickly as that’s an extreme bargain

Well here is the story I am an Engliah man staying in the Philippines I bought a JVC RC838 and a JVC RC550. Those are the classic units that I like But now I am being offered other units from those sellers and appearing in my feeds including the J1. it is for sale for 5,000 Philippine Peso which is about 90 US dollars. Seems to me would need stripping down and re painting plus belts and any other work. I studied industrial design so I am good with model making and painting and I can have an engineer do the electrical but not sure what it is worth as is or when finished??? Perhaps I will buy it, have it repaired then pass it on to someone who would enjoy doing the cometic restoration. As of now I asked the seller if he can send it to me and he says he is checking the cost.
I have also been offered a Sharp Gf-515, National Panasonic 5410 phone dial, and fisher PH 490. Similar prices.

And If I do will I be able to sell them on to good homes as is? I will only enjoy restoring the two JVC that I like. I am not really a collector. Really the two I like is enough for me.
If you buy some of these boxes for those low prices you can barter them for products and services you may need in the future to fix up the ones that you do like. Parts can be just as valuable as money especially when you need them or if you have them.

Sometimes just even passing on these Low Price Boxes is it a gift unto itself because it's hard for us to find them that those prices but I do hate to see the seller be Hoodwinked so I try to tell him you know it could be worth a little more but I'll pay what you ask being that I don't know what the hell I got to spend on it.

People here who are dealers know the value abroad, but they are not able to build a reputation, or to ship abroad unless by the container load, which would require an agent abroad to sell on, which is not practical in small quantities. Further, they can not easily go on Ebay international sites, to buy parts to restore. Another issue is turn around, they do not want their cash tied up, better to have many fast sales.
As for myself I do not know the prices other than looking on Ebay and it is hard to compare condition.
I have noticed sellers here sell for " Display or restoration." The difficulty in getting them running may limit the prices.
I like your suggestion that I may be able to barter for parts and services. So I will buy selectively.
Thank you for your advice.

A fisher 490 at that price and people are always looking for parts for those plus you could always just sell the whole box locally and probably make a few bucks. Trust me it's hard to find boomboxes in the wild that are collectable.

The fisher is 140 US equivalent. It looks good and works on line in.seller says cassette just need belts maybe so as looks good condition. He is also selling the Sharp GF-515 at 70 US. But needs cassette door covers and a power switch. Which do you think is a better deal?
Thank you.

The fisher is a great deal . keep in mind these are huge and heavy and would cost quite a bit to ship to anybody that would be interested in buying the whole unit. If you bought it to keep that price would be great.

I have vintage home stereo so I would not need it at home. I am restoring a vintage camper van the idea of the boom box for myself is a period piece to use with the van. I would have been happy with just the 838 or the 550. It is great that I got both. I am happy already.
As you advised it is worth having an extra box or two to swap for parts for my JVCs. I think I will just buy the J1 and the 5410. Thanks again.
PS now I need to search for a 1960's radio to go in the dash. Sigh.
