My Gold C100F made its appearance out in the sun today during the nice weather. A very rare event these days. Figured I'd snap a few off for those who know about this limited version of the C100F. The camera doesn't capture the glitter of the paint but eh....good enough.

Going to have a few beverages and to quote Prince "party like it's 1999".

Hope y'alls evening is as warm and as nice as it is here. Take care.

But by 1999, weren't these boomboxes considered obsolete? Cool radio though. Didn't even know there was a gold edition of the Conion. How much you think one would go for nowadays?

I would imagine they were considered "obsolete" long before 1999. The last gold Conion I remember seeing on ebay sold for more than $2,000 USD. It wouldn't surprise if a really nice one sold for $3,000.

That is true. By 1999 the flash and bling of boomboxes eroded away and cheaper watered down examples had flooded the market. Legend status of these boxes started right away as a result. Collecting began within 6 to 7 years later after its production especially for the Gold version. Prince's song "Party like its 1999" came out in 1982 in the prime of the boombox bling era and seemed like a long way away at that time :-)

Thanks for the kind words Fatdog. She managed to make it onto the wikiboombox website (last picture)

A proud day :-)

I will say, it's a little unnerving owning such a piece. I find myself protecting more than enjoying every now and then however, I try not to allow that to get in the way of using it. That day I felt like it needed to be (after careful evaluation of no dog poop or pee) plopped in the grass in an outside environment and let it ride. It needs to be enjoyed and blasted every now and then no matter how rare one is. The sun plays on it unlike any artificial indoor lighting. My opinion on anything like this is "That's what it was built to do." I take precautions but I let it loose every now and then. It's going to deteriorate whether its used or not.....so I choose to use it and enjoy it and yes...show it off on occasion :-)
