When I opened up the box this thing was FILTHY. I plugged it in to see if everything worked and the left channel was dead. Checked everything else and working 100%...even cassette. I opened it up and found the chassis had never been removed before, which was a good sign, so I took it out and cleaned all the sliders and selector switch with deoxit. Removed the speakers and man were they dusty!! Cleaned off the dust to discover they are perfect! The outer folds are a shiny dark blue and the cones and chrome center look fresh off the shelf. After a good cleaning I put it back together and both channels now work perfectly and it sounds great. That gold is really beautiful on these. I basically stole this considering how it functions now. The owner must have thought the left channel was blown cause it went cheap. Now I have a 100% operational M71...here are some pics...

oh no...this one is much to valuable to paint. Besides it's perfect the way it is. I never knew the M71 is brown where the amss is and all the brushed metal is a shiny gold color. Just a beautiful boomer.

Nice Melvin. But it still looks silver to me -- not gold enough.

How about painting this an unmistakable GOLD color ? :w00t: :-O :w00t:

Good to see it arrived in one piece!

Sad to see that most of those pictures misrepresent the actual looks of that stunner of a box! :-P

Congratulations!

BTW, how many members have one of those?

Yep one of the most beautiful boxes from that era, after owning my very first boombox in 81 or 82 which was the M-70 the M-71 was my second and I carried that box with such pride! :-D
