Another example of the GPX 990, Sensor, etc but this baby is GOLD!!!

The issues:
Broken antenna mount
Missing cassette door
Front helix badge missing
Roasted battery coils
Deck doesn't work
Gold needs to be polished
Trim above VUs missing
VUs stuck

My, how I love these resto and deep clean threads.

I know this box is in good, caring hands so I can hardly wait for the results.

Hello, that´s a nice work here, but while taking this all apart to the bits and bobs, how do you deal with electrostatic discharge, any preventions or something ? Antistatic band ? Or ESD doesn´t affect those old radios at all ? Nice clean though

That gold metal trim looks sweet. It's kinda like the metal faceplate on the Conion TC-999.

How about re-painting the area around the speakers a fresh coat of gold, to make the whole box look shiny and metallic?

No mods right now. Just need to get a new trim above the VUs. VUs are stuck. Oddly a JVC M71 gold door wedges right into the cassette door opening.

WHOA! :w00t: That deck door looks GREAT!

Man, your gonna need to call a plumber for your tub if you keep washing out these filthy blasters :jawdrop:

I love the looks of these 990's. How does this new one sound?

Thanks dudes!

I think the Sensor brand is just a hair better in sound. The guts of each are almost identical but the woofers are different manufacturers.

I'll try to fab up a cassette door hinge some day. I'm glad I still had that gold door laying around. I could just attach it with velcro if I wanted.

As far as any elecrical discharge, I have it unplugged for at least 10 minutes, then flip every switch and push every button to discharge any 'pre-loaded' circuits.

They get very lound. Hit notes all over the scale. The bass needs to be turned down as volume increases but they are decent. It sounds most like a Lasonic 922.

My intent wasn't to sell this one, but there is a sale pending for this big gold beauty!

Have my Gold Helix in rotation in my office and I remembered it was missing the trim above the VUs and the front badge. I made a black VU trim and black patch for the missing label. I'll call it the "Black Label Gold Helix".

They are not centered or glued on yet, just set for the pictures.
