What box do you own that you're embarrassed to admit you really like to other collectors ? Does anyone here actually have ,say...a Durabrand...lovingly hidden away so no one else can see it?If so bring it out of the closet and show us a picture of yourself :smooch: with it.We'll find out sooner or later :-P ...

Usually I'm proud to show off a Grundig. Usually... but not always. Like with this RR-630 CD. Pretty much, it stays boxed up in the basement.

By the way, I bought it because, from the front, it looks like the head of a fly... :-O which is also the main reason I keep it hidden!

That's freakin hillarious Sin and Rimmer.

The closest thing I have might be the baby kaboom but I pulled it out a few weeks ago and realized I forgot how much this thing can kick it, no more embarrasment. :nonono: :-D

I guess I can't think of anything, I got rid of all my dogs months ago.

Huh?? I LOVE that box!! Toshiba, Japanese domestic issue, lots of nice controls, vertical CD player, "dynamic bass"... WOW! If that's the kind of box you're ashamed of, I wanna see the ones you're proud of!

Had to dig deep in my closet for this one. The Venturer CD-1282, from 2000 A.D.
Bad news: seems I used it a couple of times and stored it away... with batteries still in it.
Good news: not only did the batteries not leak in nine years, but they still work! Battery technology must be a lot better in this century than it used to be.

Bought it because I liked the color: translucent orange and white (on back). Very i-Mac-y!

Confession: this is a modern box that I like a lot... because it's the only boombox I know (that can run on either batteries or AC) that plays and records minidiscs. Got it out the other day to remember 1999, with house/techno/funk duo, Cassius. I'm not exactly the club type, so when the beats got boring, I switched to Alice in Chains. Fortunately, this little Casio does a decent job with both.

mini disc is a mystery to me. the mystery being why it never really went any where here. it was a really cool format and well i thought it was great.

Agent O over at S2G says this: "I do find it odd that Minidiscs never took off, or rather they did but MP3 just came along too quickly. Sound quality from Minidisc is superb." Sounds like a good answer to me. Good format, but too close to the end of the hard storage era to be useful. Besides, back when it was introduced, most folks had just converted from LP to CD and weren't ready to convert again. Same probably goes for DAT and dcc.

newbie to mini-dics -- :dunce:
questions
1. do the mini-disc boomboxes record to the disc directly off the radio ?
2. do any cd boomboxes record to the the CDs ?
3, can minidiscs be played on any cd player ?

thank you

Yes, the Casio box will record from CD, line in or radio. Once recorded, the MD has to be edited: content left in and taken out, content divided into tracks, tracks put in order, track names assigned, disc name assigned, etc. (I've never done it.)

I don't know of a CD boombox that records CD's... just component decks and, of course, the computer.

Minidiscs have to be played on a MD player.
