A few weeks ago I picked up my 777 and I decided almost instantly it was going to get new speakers. Thw seller had 2 original Sharp bass woofers (but situated where the main drivers should be) and 2 new bass speaker that were 8 ohms.

here is a pic as It was.

here are the speakers I got

Alpine sxe1725s

They looked silver in the picture but are more white in colour

they needed painted to be colour coded!

so I liked the look of these EDGE ED306

since I was aready in planning to paint the Alpines I wasn't bothered about the colour of the edge speaker cos if you're going to paint 2 peakers you might as well paint 4!

here they are after some painstaking masking and 3 layers of enamel chrome effect spray paint

these were pretty straight forward to fit the previous owner had modded the chassis to fit his big bass speakers but Personally I would have cut away part of the speaker surround instead and I had to rake dad's workshop for new screws and little washers for a more secure fit. Apart from that I took my time and every thing was soldered into place in just over an hour!

Here's how it looks now with it's new speakers installed!

Gotta say that looks tons better than the original, the silver colour really sits well in that box  if only today's speaker technology was around back in the day.
Job well done mate, now get a vid up as BeoSystem says

Sounds totally Awsome ! Much better than the set up before. I love watching the new bass speakers jump in and out with a sharp thumping sound rather than a farty one and it can go pretty loud, the chasis gives in before the speakers! :stereo:

Nice! I would have left those speakers with the original burnt orange color!
The colour was really cool but I don't think it would have looked right in my 777. I wanted to the classic looks and modern technology blended together!

As soon as I figure out how to upload a video to the interweb, I'll do it folks! :hmmm:
Youtube makes it pretty easy. Just create an account & hit the upload button. Once you are on the Upload page, drag your vid file to the upload square & BAM!!! your vid is uploading....It'll even support 1080p vids....

Totally looks kick ass. Are the edge speakers 8ohms as well? The outers, are you running them as 2 ways in addition to the original speakers?

Being car speakers the norm would be 4 OHM all across. A lot of members have used 4 OHM alpines for their 777 upgrades. I wanted the max power out so I went with 2 OHM BOSE as you know & they work great but not as glossy new looking as the others....

Cpl is right, All four speakers are 4 ohms and the 2 outers are full range with their own tweeters run with the original tweeter speakers in place.

Question, I have two 4 ohm small Sony tweeters salvaged from a surround sound system and also tweeters from a VZ2000, would they make a good upgrade and should I run them with or instead of the original sharp ones?

Hard to say if they would sound better, worse or the same. Too many tweeters will fark with stereo imaging tho & probably overbright. Also, you probably know that each tweeter has to have at least a single order filter capacitor to keep lower frequencies out & different crossover points will change the sound dramatically too. It's a lot to juggle & there is no short definite answer to your query. The fun & also frustrating part is the mix & match approach where you try different tweeters, different filters, etc to get the balance you want. I think it would be good to start by asking what is it about the sound that you don't like or want to change & then we can get a better handle on where to start.....
