GF 999 tape sound suddenly muffled

Was sounding beautiful for the last month and suddenly today, the tape sound is super muffled. I cleaned heads and still no luck. Any thoughts on what could have cause this sudden sound quality change? When I play radio its back to beautiful so def related to tape decks. Thanks!!!

You probably need to demagnetize the heads. Do that first, and then adjust the azimuth to see if that helps too.

Also in addition to Fatdog's advice,be sure the heads are clean.
Some decks are more sensitive than others to buildup.

So i ordered a demagnetizer, but in the mean time I cleaned the heads, and used one of those cassette style demagnetizers and it worked! Back to Boom! Thanks guys!
