This box looks like it was designed / made at the same time as the 8989 ? Anyone got a catalogue ?

I believe they both came out in '81...however the 9797 retailed around double the price of the 8989. Must have been expensive to mass producer digital tuners back then.
Photos courtesy of a UK member i believe who got the promo catalogue with a near immaculate example of the 9797.

Beautiful Boombox. All I can ask for is a double VU Meter. I wonder why Sharp went cheap there.

Excellent information Scotty! I hope the paint job didn't make the paper soft. I am always afraid of using a paint over the cone paper. My OCD don't allow me to do so.

Did we ever issue a memo about what paint, even plastic paint, does to paper cones and their sound?

If so, I missed it. I thought we had this discussion before, although someone always mentions it when this comes up. :hmmm:

('cause if it works ok & my ears are just shot then I'm off to the store for paint to do mine!)

Yeah, that was my 9797, nearly 2 years on and I still can't get over the BIN £15, it was/is like new :-)

Your white speaker version looks great, even more so with the repainted woofers
