good morning to all...OK yesterday I began to tear down this box  first thing upon opening is the amount of dirt and dust inside the box   ..I used a vacuum cleaner to get rid of it all so far..here is the bad first..found a total of 2 cracks on the body the big one on the side and one on the top..second is the back 2 of the posts are broken out ..So now I went to power it up vol static is horrible and only one side was working tape decks work but eat tapes...The good news is I took the vol. pot apart and cleaned all the fingers oxidation was a serious factor here!!!But after it was cleaned and put back together it works as good as new...So today I'm going to take the rest apart and clean them too...then I will move on to the decks...all the rubber on the wheels are rotted away ...but good news is I have those rubber wheels ..here is a few pics..

Ewwww yeah man that was really dirty in there.

I see the impact knocked the AM radio band bar right off the holder behind the tuner..... one of mine showed up that way too :-/

Yes joe it's a filthy mess... But there is hope it just finished cleaning all the pots!! Took all of the rest apart and cleaned all the contacts with 1000 grit paper then cleaned all of them with deoxit regressed and they are all functioning now:.. Put it back together to test and they all function 100% no more static .... So now I will start the decks here is a pic of the pots apart

Here is how far I got !!! Decks are now working they need the heads aligned but that we will save for later..repaired the line in so now that works.. Put it back together for a test and it really sounds good .so now starts the task of getting this all clean and fix all the broken parts..in really trying to decide if I should paint this one a different color... It's really bad on the casing lots of serious stains and almost like a mold .... I'm thinking a silver with like a light blue ... Really need you guys input.... All the best jimmy

Keep going, you're doing well! Lovin' the way you pulled the pots apart to do a proper service.

I reckon a repaint is a great idea with the stains + crack repairs etc.

It's great news that the amps etc are healthy.

James .... :-)

Bro Jimmy, why settle for 1000 grit? I would use 2000 automotive grade....a few gentle strokes...like using a feather...

Keep up the good work with the GF magic touch... you got the genie...

Waiting to see the final pics!

There's probably a Letraset that matches the font for the print? I found some on eBay for doing the control legends on one of my rescue jobs (JVC 656) after some remedial paintwork and it's a perfect match. They're not as easy to find in stationers and similar shops these days but good old Letrasets are still around if you look on the bay of e. ;-)
