I found a Sharp GF-9000 and the guy wants $300 for it. It's described as having vice physical condition however it powers up but no sound. I'm going to go by and do a more comprehensive analysis. This price seems a little steep for a non functional box.

if it does not work not worth paying so much even thou it could be a 50/50 chance you could get a deal or lose all that money.. because if you spend 300 then find out it was hit by lightning then no good just wasted all your money not good ,, the most i could offer and thats just me $80.00 for a non working box ,, i have bought a couple at that price non working and on both boxes i was lucky that one was a microswitch that was bad and the other the audio ics........ :-)

a radio with no sound is like a tv with no picture , i would not offer him too much cuz then he will think it's valuable ,i mean if you can't afford it at $300.00 you are not really losing anything by offering squat to him for it ,just say you would have to get a repair estimate on top of the cost of the box and it's a gamble in the long run so take it or leave it .

The risk is all on your end. It could be easy, it might not be. I never did inspect a box that way but maybe you should do like Ramon and look for lighting tracks. :-O

If its in any help, a fully working (albeit well used, by sellers description) one of these sold on ebay here inthe UK for under £90 just this week.

Personally, I don't think I would even bother to waste the time to go see it unless it's really convenient for you.... Sounds to me like this guy has such a super-inflated perception about the value of his box that you don't stand a chance of getting it for a reasonable price.

The price he asks is way too high.
I bought a fully functionnal GF 9000 a few years ago for 250 € .It was very well taken care for.
The red in the VU meter is still red.
Most of the GF 9000's have badly faded colours in the VU meters

That same box was up about a month ago and he started at 300 and withen the week it dropped to 200 I thought about offering him 100 but I decided against it since I have no experience working on them. So i know he was going to take 200 for it that was still to steep for a box that dont work.

The only things that I notice are the chrome Sharp logo is missing, something was spilled or splashed onto the speakers  , there are some numbers scratched into it in 2 places and it has had some minimal battery leakage. I give it a 7/10.

It works perfectly the VU colors are vibrant and it still produces hazardous noise so I'm happy.

@ Roger777 you're in Portland? Want to meet up? Or maybe a PNW meet?

I'll put up some pics when I can get it outside. I live in a basement and the lighting is ****.
