GF-8989-Z/II Rebelt

Heyya, :-D

Just wondering how difficult it is to rebelt a GF-8989-Z/II. I can get the case open but haven't tried to take the deck apart yet. All functions work but the tape doesn't track perfectly & the RR/FF belts slip when a tape is in the deck. Any guides out there to do this? I already did my GF-777Z with the help of the rebelt guide. Is it similiar to this deck?

Any guidance would be great. Everything else works good.

yes it is..there are 3 plugs to remove the deck from the radio....as far as i can remember the screws you will see when you have the box open....after that it's pretty much a breeze remove the screws from the back of the deck i belive there are 4 of them .....the belts should be exposed at that point just be careful not to loose the fly wheel washer....but it's basically just like the 777 at hat point same idler tires...clean them clean all the plastic on the flywheel and new belts it should be as good as new

:agree: It is very easy to lose thoes flywheel washers on both ends and one over the capstan. When working on the tape deck, I always use a white big paper underneath so that it is easy to locate those washers if you drop them. Remove old lubrication from the capstan and flywheel bearings and use white silicon grease.

AWESOME!!! Thanx for the advice & tips guys. I have to wait for the smaller 4.6 inch square belt to be in stock as they are hard to locate, then I'll order them in Jan.

Wish me luck. :-D
